Strong Showing from Oneida Middle School in Area Tournament

By Caleb Jeffers
The Area 7-A Middle School Basketball Tournament concluded on January 27th, and saw both the Indians and the Lady Indians emerge victorious.
In spite of a very close game, the Lady Indians had a very dominant performance in their championship match against Huntsville Middle School. A series of good defensive plays and clutch shooting secured the win for Oneida in the final moments. The game ended with a score of 27-25.
For their efforts, Huntsville saw four players named to the all-tournament team, while Oneida had six (Syler Lawson, Blakelee Culver, Zoie Terry, Jayilee Coffey, Lucy Sexton, and Tournament MVP Paizleigh Lowe).
The boy’s team, meanwhile, had an even more dominant showing against Jellico High School, with a final score of 61-33. The boy’s team had five players named to the all-tournament team (Abram Rector, Hudson Culver, Kaden Keeton, Sawyer Smith, and Tournament MVP Kannon Gazay).
The Indians and Lady Indians will play against Englewood in the Section Tournament on February 5th at Harriman High School, while the Huntsville Lady Bears will play against Springdale on February 1st at Jellico High School.
