Sonny Dewayne Morrell, age 70, of Pioneer, TN, passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at the Huntsville Post-Acute and Rehab Center in Huntsville, TN. Born June 13, 1956, in Cincinnati, OH, he was the son of the late John Edward and Pernie Harness Morrell. Sonny worked in radio telecasting, and was a member of the New Beverly Baptist Church in Knoxville, TN.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter: Lyric Ariel Riley Morrell.
Sonny is survived by his children: Charatie (Matt) Minnich, Sonny Jr. (Dallas) Morrell; grandchildren: Zecharia James Morrell, Seth Xavier Morrell, and Grayson Noah Morrell; sister: Peggy (Carlie) Duncan; and brother: John Morrell; special aunt: Bea Golden; uncles: Clyde and Curt Harness; many other family members and friends.
Friends may visit with the Morrell family on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home with Bro. Carlie Duncan and Bro. Matt Minnich officiating. Music will be provided by the Duncan Family Singers.
Committal service will follow in the Botts Cemetery in Oneida, TN. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
