A Kentucky prosecutor is still awaiting the findings of a State Police investigation into hazing allegations waged against the McCreary Central High School football team. The hazing incident was reported on August 28, 2025, following an alleged occurrence in Casey County, located west of Somerset.
In recent years, high school hazing has become a widespread issue across the United States, affecting a substantial number of students each academic year. Approximately 1.5 million American high school students experience hazing annually, with as many as 35% of student athletes admitting to experiencing hazing from teams or during athletic events. While some hazing occurrences have traditionally been viewed as rites of passage, others have been severe, even resulting in criminal charges and having long term psychological impacts on students. The alleged incident at McCreary Central is uncommon, however, in that most hazing cases are not reported.
The allegations have resulted in the presence of SRO officers at football practices, a parent, who wished to remain anonymous, told SCN.
This is the second time in the preceding month that the McCreary County School District has found themselves in the spotlight, following former Principal and Assistant Superintendent Aaron Anderson accepting a federal plea deal for a 10-year prison sentence on federal sex crime charges involving a McCreary Central student.
The Kentucky State Police investigation is on-going. As of press, specific details about the nature of the alleged hazing have not been publicly disclosed.
The School District has yet to comment on the recent allegations.
