Grand Opening of the Museum of Oneida and Scott County

With vendors, live music, and dozens of patrons braving the rains, the anticipated Grand Opening of the Museum of Oneida and Scott County was held last Thursday inside the historic depot at Oneida City park, which has been painstakingly restored to house local history. The event, attended by Oneida Mayor Lori Phillips-Jones, State Rep. Kelly Keisling, and Congressman Fleischman Field Rep. Tammy Merritt saw the unveiling of an array of exhibits that have been overseen by curator Moe Mullis and the museum’s board of directors: Oneida Community Development Coordinator Virginia Bruce, Mike Sexton, Jeremy Cross, Paula Leftwich, James Bragg, and Shilo Shannon. The board hopes to see the space become a destination for local students and an epicenter for tourists to learn about Scott County.
The event saw Phillips-Jones recognize the contributions of Mullis and more than a century of service to Scott County by SCN, who celebrates 110 years of business in 2026. SCN owner/publisher Ruthie Mullett, Office Manager Cindy Daugherty, Editor Suzanna Martinez and Contributing Editor Shane Gilreath were on hand to accept the recognition.
The Museum of Oneida and Scott County is expected to be open Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 10 AM to 5 PM.
