“No child should go hungry,” Oak & Ash, the new Winfield-based restaurant, declared in a recent advertisement announcing a community-driven initiative aimed at providing free lunches to local children during the summer months.
Beginning Wednesday, July 8, Oak & Ash will offer free bagged lunches to children ages 14 and under. The lunches will be available from noon until 2PM, providing a reliable meal option for families during a time when many students are out of school and may not have access to school meal programs.
“At Oak & Ash, we believe every child deserves access to a meal,” the restaurant said.
The effort is another example of Scott County coming together to support its own. The restaurant says the program will depend on partnerships with community members, local businesses, churches, civic organizations, and volunteers who share their commitment to helping local children.
To make the initiative possible, Oak & Ash is seeking additional sponsors, donors, and volunteers willing to contribute time, resources, or financial support. Those interested in helping are encouraged to contact the restaurant at [email protected]. Those seeking more information are also invited to reach out.
“Let’s come together as a community and make sure our kids are fed, cared for, and supported,” the restaurant said.
