“For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God…” (1 Corinthians 1:21, KJV)

By Rev Dale Lee
Some atheists believe we can dismiss God rather easily and this on a purely intellectual basis. Former Iranian Muslim author Armin Navabi writes: “In reality, the only necessary argument against believing in God is simply that there is no evidence that any gods exist.” Former atheist Antony Flew disagrees, citing the argument of the complexity of DNA: “What I think the DNA material has done is that is has shown, by the almost unbelievable complexity of the arrangements which are needed to produce life, that intelligence must have been involved in getting these extraordinary diverse elements to work together.” Flew cites the example called the “monkey theorem.” “This idea, which has been presented in a number of forms and variations, defends the possibility of life arising by chance using the analogy of a multitude of monkeys banging away on computer keyboards and eventually ending up writing a Shakespearean sonnet.” The British National Council of Arts actually conducted an experiment where a computer was placed in a cage with six monkeys. Proof was surely coming that the monkeys banging away would produce something comprehensible and intelligent as is required by DNA. The first thing the monkeys did was use the computer for a bathroom. Flew writes: “After one month of hammering away at it (as well as using it for a bathroom), the monkeys produced fifty typed pages – but not a single word.” Not even the word “a” which requires a space before and after it. It turns out that life with all its complexity and design cannot arise by chance. And yet the unbelievers preach on. The fact is that that many people refuse faith in God and in Christ because of two main reasons: First, they find fault with the Bible. The devil makes sure that so called Bible errors seem catastrophic. How can there be a God if some Bible numbers are hard to explain or if so and so, who was described as a father, actually turned out to be a grandfather? Second, they become offended at God because of suffering. The former so-called Christian now published unbeliever Bart Ehrman writes: “There came a time when I left the faith…because I could no longer reconcile my faith in God with the state of the world that I saw all around me…There is so much senseless pain and misery in the world that I came to find it impossible to believe that there is a good and loving God who is in control…” The world by wisdom will never know God. The reality of human pain and suffering actually emphasizes the truthfulness of Scripture which tells us that pain and death followed the rebellion and Adam and Eve exactly as God predicted. The world daily succumbs to the demonic scheme of offense designed by the enemy to become stumbling blocks to saving faith over which they will fall into eternal condemnation.
