“…the world by wisdom knew not God…” (1 Corinthians 1:21, KJV)

By Rev Dale Lee
And to not know God is fatal. Nothing we can ever gain is worth the losing of our eternal souls to the tormenting, flaming darkness of God’s justice. The Western world has long bowed most obediently before the altar of science. And this science has for a long time been dominated by the theory of evolution, proving yet again that the world by wisdom will never know God. And to not know God is fatal, eternal conscious death. We must know that “God in His wisdom made it impossible for people to know him by means of their own wisdom.” So we might very accurately say that the first rule of wisdom is by our own wisdom we cannot know God. Such is God’s design. So how do we know God? What does knowing God mean anyway? Here are some vital truths given by Dr. J. I. Packer in his great book Knowing God: First, God is not the sort of person we are. He differs vastly from us. Second, we cannot know Him unless He speaks and tells us about himself. This he has done. Third, most of the things we value as important to know about in this world are of little value when compared to knowing God. Fourth, all the purposes of God center not on me but on Him. Fifth, to get to know another person you have to commit yourself to his company and interests, and be ready to identify yourself with his concerns. Without this, your relationship with him can only be superficial and flavorless. Sixth, we are cruel to ourselves if we try to live in this world without knowing about the God whose world it is and who runs it. The world becomes a strange, mad, painful place, and life in it a disappointing and unpleasant business, for those who do not know about God. Disregard the study of God, and you sentence yourself to stumble and blunder through life blindfolded, as it were, with no sense of direction and no understanding of what surrounds you. This way you can waste your life and lose your soul. This would be most unwise.
