Oneida earns 4th place in the District match

With a final score of 44-51, the Oneida Lady Indians’ season has come to a close. Facing one of the top seeds in the Region was never going to be an easy task, but Oneida managed to keep things competitive for the entirety of the game. In fact, Oneida had the lead going into the second half, but couldn’t quite close things out.
Even with this loss, Oneida caps off a very good season, as Coach Mark West was quick to point out. “I am so proud of these girls for coming up here with a will to win,” he said. “We could’ve looked at their record. We could’ve said, ‘Oh, we have to play Alcoa if we win.’ Many excuses could be made right now, but we didn’t make any.”
Oneida saw Larissa Jones get a double-double, securing twelve rebounds and scoring fifteen points. Kamryn Stiltner added on nine points to the effort. With the loss, Oneida’s season ends with an 11-20. Oneida expects to return to Class 1A in the coming season, where they will face opponents such as Coalfield, Sunbright, and Wartburg once again.
