“God…has in these last days spoken to us by His Son…” (Hebrews 1:1-2, NKJV)

Rev Dale Lee
Not one of us can think or know everything we need to think or know by ourselves. We need help. Not one of us can see everything we need to see by ourselves. We need help. Do we see this? Who can possibly understand this world or her own life experiences without help? All of us need Someone wiser to reveal truth to us; to give us understanding of how to live. Additionally there is a dark power with global influence who delights in the deception and destruction of all humanity. He darkens the minds of men (2 Corinthians 4:4). We do not help ourselves by listening to people, however knowledgeable they claim to be, who don’t know what they are talking about. For example, an atheist or evolutionist or socialist. We don’t have to drink anyone’s wine because it is in an appealing glass. Discernment is needed in God’s people lest we be deceived. So who to listen to? God is the only One who knows what is happening, what the world is all about, and where it is headed with us riding along. It we were driving rapidly toward a collapsed bridge and into certain disaster we would very much value warning lights and signs. These God has given us when He spoke to us by His Son. Jesus, a prophet and Son of God, has told us the future and we should diligently study His words and the other prophets. If we lean on our own understanding what may well be the result? Man has always done exactly this and what a mess has resulted. As C. S. Lewis writes in Mere Christianity: “What Satan put into the heads or our remote ancestors was the idea that they could ‘be like gods’ – could set up on their own as if they had created themselves – be their own masters- invent some sort of happiness for themselves outside of God, apart from God. And out of that hopeless attempt has come nearly all that we call human history – money, poverty, ambition, war, prostitution, classes, empires, slavery – the long terrible story of man trying to find something other than God which will make him happy.” God has spoken to us through Jesus. We would be very wise to find out all we can about what He has said.
