The Apostle Matthew writes in his gospel chapter 12:15-21 that Isaiah’s prophecy is fulfilled in Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ, God’s Anointed Servant, is called the Elect One, the Chosen. God chose His Son, born on earth as Jesus of Nazareth, to accomplish many all-important works on earth. He has succeeded and will complete all for which He was chosen. The world is always looking for the next superman, next messiah, the next superhero. Most humans on the planet miss God’s Chosen Savior or reject Him because He does not meet their expectations. What do the Scriptures reveal as to the works Jesus was chosen to accomplish? First, He was chosen to “give His life a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:45) If ever we enter through the holy gates of the New Jerusalem into a life of eternal beauty, glory and joy, united to God forever, it will be only because of the scourge, the whips, the spit, the fists, the thorns, the spikes, the sword, the agony, the hell, the cross of the Lord Jesus Christ. He was chosen to bear our sins and He has succeeded. Second, Jesus was chosen to “destroy the works of the devil.’ (I John 3:8) Satan’s reign on earth is ending, his days numbered, his fate sealed. The empty tomb of Jesus Christ proves this. Third, Jesus was chosen to “bear witness to the truth.” “For this cause was I born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.” Jesus spoke only truth. You can take His words to the bank or anywhere else for that matter. Heaven and earth will pass away before one word of Jesus Christ fails to be completed. He was chosen to bear witness to the truth. He has succeeded. No need to look for any one else. Jesus is God’s Elect and with Him God is eternally pleased.
