“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem.” (Psalm 122:6, KJV)

Rev Dale Lee
When, why and who? Answer: Now, because God tells us to, and Spirit -led Christians. Most Christians have at least a feeling that Israel and Jerusalem are important, though they may not be able to explain why they feel this way. Unfortunately there exists a false teaching that God is through with Israel and Jerusalem because they rejected Jesus as their Messiah. This has been called replacement theology and it needs to be replaced with biblical theology. Here are several reasons why replacement theology is wrong: (1) When God gave His promises to restore Israel (Joel 3:16-17; Zech. 14:16; Luke 1:32,33; Matt. 25:31-32; Romans 11:26-27) He did not lie. His words meant exactly what He intended to say. Restoration means just that and it will happen; (2) Jesus understood the prophecies and promises concerning Himself in the Old Testament to be actually fulfilled (Luke 24:44). He was not confused or prone to misinterpret Scripture; (3) Every word of judgment prophesied against Israel was literally fulfilled; they were exiled and suffered exactly as God had spoken; we have every reason to assume from this that every word of God concerning the restoration of Israel will be likewise literally fulfilled; (4) Satan has no time nor intention to fight for and hold on to land of no consequence as he does with the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, the sight of Solomon’s temple; Satan holds desperately to this ground through the Muslim mosque now located there; (5) God made covenants with Abraham and David which will never be annulled; to Abraham and his descendants God promised the land of Israel and to David He promised a descendant to forever sit upon the throne in Jerusalem. This will be Jesus, literally. Jesus’ Kingship is no symbol. On Christmas day just passed the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, spoke the following words: “My dear Christian friends, as you gather with your family and friends this Christmas, I wish the Christian community in Israel and around the world blessings for a merry Christmas from the Holy Land…from Jerusalem the city of peace.” Amazing indeed. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem.
