Clara Joan “Joann” Rector Sexton, age 90, departed this life on Friday, September 13, 2024 surrounded by her family. She was born on October 25, 1933, at home in Huntsville, Tennessee to Chloe Woodward Rector and Carl L. Rector. She was a graduate of Huntsville High School. Joan was saved at a young age and faithful member of White Rock Baptist Church and servant for over 50 years. She served in the church as Secretary Treasurer. She worked at Huntsville Furniture and Hardware, R. S. & W Coal Company, and as a bookkeeper for Paint Rock Coal and Lumber Company. She worked in Scott County Register of Deeds office as a Chief Deputy Clerk.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband: James Curtis Sexton; Grandparents: Dr. David Morgan and Mary Jane Woodward and Mr. & Mrs. George Washington Rector. Daughter-in-Law: Katrina Sexton; Brother: George Morgan and Edith Phillips Rector; Brother-in-Laws: Donald Sexton and Jerry Murley. Several other Brothers and Sister-in-Laws.
She is survived by her Children: Anita Chloe Sexton, James Curtis (Rusty) Sexton II, and Carl Rector Sexton; Grandchildren: Alicia Sexton King and husband Cory, Bryan Curtis Sexton; Great-Grandchildren: Jasmine Renee Gibson and Jaden Noah King; Sisters: Henrietta Rector Sexton Debord and husband Wayne;Nancy Murley Sister: Jo Nell Sexton Ross; Sister-in-Laws: Patricia Ann Sexton and Wanda Sexton. Nieces and Nephews: Matt Sexton, Amy Sexton and husband (Donnie), Karla West and husband (Eric), Daniel Murley, Shonn Murley and wife (Amy), Gwynn Morgan, Kathy King and husband Henry, Pam Rector, Gina Marsee and husband Bobby; Several other special nieces, nephews, relatives and friends that all had a special place in her heart.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at White Rock Baptist Church from 4:00 P.M. until time of funeral services to begin at 5:00 P.M. with Bro. Jeff Davis and Bro. James E. West officiating. Music will be provided by Daniel Murley and Gwynn Morgan. Burial will follow in the Mossop Cemetery in Huntsville, Tennessee.
