Annual Fathers Day weekend Fun Run & Mike Slaven Memorial Car Show

This past Saturday members of our community and surrounding areas came together at the Oneida City Park for a favorite annual event. The Fun Run and Mike Slaven Memorial Car Show. By all accounts, this year was no exception for turn out and everyone was treated to a great event.
More on the car show and the man whose name is remembered annually.

The Mike Slaven
Memorial Car Show
Just a little about the man the Car Show is
now named after. Mike Slaven may not have
been born in Scott County, but Scott County
was in his blood. His family is originally from
here, and like so many families they moved
north to find work. After his family moved
back to Scott County, he worked various different
places and opened a few businesses
before ultimately opening Mike’s Station in
its current location. Always happy
to lend a helping hand, Mike
was involved with the Scott County Rescue
Department. He gave generously
back to the community and he manned the
grill at the Fun Run event, at his church functions,
and family gatherings for years. (It has
been said that no one can grill a burger like
Mike). The Fun Run was one of his favorite
events pairing cars and cooking. And people.
The Fun Run also had people, and by all
accounts Mike liked people, and enjoyed
meeting new people…
