As Told By W. H. Blevins (1869-1964)
The Burke Family is continued from June 11, 2026 weeks issue of SCN.
Kirby S. King married Lina Burke, daughter of General and Ellen Blevins Burke. Their children were Lena, Georgia, Milford and Robert.
Lena married Howard Burke, son of Will Hayden and Rilda Thomas Burke. Their children were Paul, Jeff and Dale. Georgia married Coyne Walker, son of Rosier and Cindy West Walker. Their children were Deborah and Reba. Milford married Wanda Hamby, daughter of Herman and Alice Burke Hamby. Their children were Wilma Lee and William Scotty.
Josiah King married Nancy Thomas, sister of Isaac Thomas. Their children were Barthela, Rosa, Clony, Ollie, Hattie, Thressie, Bailey, Isaac, Dec., Kirby and Lizzie.
Kirby married Eva Taylor. Their children were Fred and Lizzie. Lizzie married a Dan. Hattie married Bud Perry. Barthela married Columbus Perry. Clony married Oliver Burke and Thressie married Bate Burke, son of Diance Burke.
Rosa married Fred Marcum and Lizzie, born Dec. 1890, died Sept. 1, l962, married Lowry Phillips. Her children were Wilda, Sally, Nancy, Ozie and Luther.
Wilda married Mitchelle Burke, son of Will Haden and Winnie West Burke. Their children were Eula Faye, Luther and ….
Eula Faye married Wayne Blevins, son of Noah and Bonnie Huckeby Blevins. They bad one child.
Sally married Teddy Terry, son of Cal and Rosie Blevins Terry. Their children were Velma, Wanda ….
Ozie married Nellie Webb, niece of Esau Webb. Their children were Lloyd …. Henry, 1967 – Oct. 1969.
Luther married Lorene Miller, daughter of Will J. and Ellen Burke Miller and had one boy. Nancy married Lemuel Marcum (1887-1967), son of Johnny Marcum. Their children were John Lora, James Roy, Mrs. Curtis Marcum, Mrs. Kermit Carson and Lula Mae. Lizzie joined the Bethalonia Baptist Church at Williams Creek Sept. 20, 1920. She served as deaconess and clerk from 1941 until her death in 1962. She left 17 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Bailey King, Feb. 27, 1893 – April 18, 1960, married Ollie Slaven, daughter of Harve and Sarah Pennington Slaven. They had one son, John Henry. His second wife was Ollie King, daughter of Elihue King, 1855-1918. Their children were Tommy, James, Arther Vester, Claudine and Gladys. His third wife was Sally Terry. They had no children.
Claudine married Fannin. Gladys married Terry and John Henry married Nova Burke, daughter of George and Lady Smith Burke. Their children were Kenneth, Allen Virginia, Claudine (Dena), Arthur, Bill, Thelma (1947-My 14, 1967) and Wilma (died in infancy in 1948). Virginia married Ray Erwin, son of Calvin and Delphia “Shoemaker” Erwin. Their children were Linda, Ruthie, Brenda, Janifer (died in infancy), Karen, Donna, Michael, Tim and Tamra. Kenneth married Jean and had Sheila, Kenny, Kathy, Bruce and Linda. Allen married Wilma Jean Bowling and had no children but adopted a son Randy Allen. Arthur married Wilma Sexton and they had sons Jim and Josh. Dena married and had two children Sam and Tina. Ollie King married Isaac Smith, son of Jerry and Zelphia Burke Smith. Their children were James, married …. Brown, Lorene married Bill Chitwood, son of Isham Chitwood and had three children, Dale, Carla and Don, Billy Joe, Harold, Roger, Patsy, Tony and Janice, married James O Laxton, son of Elbert and Etta, … Laxton. Their children were Susie, Michael and David Shane, 1963 – Oct. 1966.
Bill Chitwood was the son of Isham Chitwood and the grandson of James W. and Anna Orick Walker. His mother was …. Walker Chitwood.
Lemuel Marcum was the son of Johnny and Orlena West Marcum. He was born July 28, 1887 and died June 14, 1967. He married Nancy Phillips, Dec. 29, 1940, and had five children and five grandchildren.
Lewis Burke married Sally Blevins, daughter of Armpstead and Marjorie Carson Blevins. They had no children. Lewis served as clerk and deacon of the New Zion Church until August 1878. They were excluded in February 189l for departing from the faith.
Harmon Burke married Polly Smith and had three girls, Betty, Mary and, Nancy.
