Enmity. Sometimes a seething, venomous hostility waiting for just the right moment to strike and sometimes a raging, murderous assault. God declares that ultimately the seed of the snake will be crushed under the foot of the seed of the woman. Seed can be translated as offspring. Christian interpreters have understood this declaration of God to ultimately be fulfilled in Christ’s victory over Satan and his human agents. One fact of history is unmistakably clear, there is ever an enmity which exists in the Satanic kingdom against Israel. We see this in Revelation 12: “And the dragon stood before the woman who was ready to give birth, to devour her Child as soon as it was born. She bore a male Child who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron. And her Child was caught up to God and to His throne…Now when the dragon saw that he had been cast to earth, he persecuted the woman who gave birth to the Child.” Since God began to regather His people to His land in modern times, two world wars have occurred directly impacting the holy land, and the middle east has been on fire ever since. Enmity. An indefensible, irrational hatred of Israel poisons the minds of millions. The most recent example is the Islamic Republic of Iran. Former U. S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman writes in his book One Jewish State: “We must address the Islamic Republic of Iran, or as I and others refer to it, the ‘Head of the Snake.’ Iran was behind the October 7 massacre. Its senior leaders traveled to Syria and Lebanon to conduct training sessions for the Hamas attack. Iran even acknowledged that a commander of its Revolutionary Guards, Mohammed Reza Zahedi, actively planned the assault. Israel killed Zahedi while he as in Damascus on April 2, 2024.” Christians should be very diligent, prayerful and thoughtful in studying Holy Scripture, not caught unawares or prone to shouting like an overenthusiastic radio preacher. Satanic enmity against Israel, which God predicted so long ago, will continue until the Jewish Son of God returns and kicks this venomous reptile into the abyss for a thousand years.
