That he entered the service in the North Carolina Militia in the War of the Revolution at Gilford Court House in the State of North Carolina in the year 1780 under Captain Johnson and was in the battle of Cowpens in this campaign. He served six months. After the battle at the Cowpens he volunteered and went to the head waters of the River Holston to defend the western frontier and was under Captain Campbell for six months. After his discharge from Capt., Campbell he was retained as an Indian spy under the command of Col. Dickison and Captain Lewis. He was upwards of eight months in this service and encountered a great many hardships. He further __ that that owing to the lapse of time and the lapse of memory he has forgotten a great many of the particulars of his campaigns
