Pvt. James McDonald, North Carolina Militia
Was born Aug. 21 1758 in Cumberland Co. North Carolina and married Sarah Cox, July 20, 1797 in Randolph Co. North Carolina. He served in the North Carolina militia as a horseman and was in a number of battles Kings Mountain, Camden, Cowpens and Savannah. He applied for a Bounty Land Warrant in Scott County, TN.
The Land Grand was awarded based on his service during the Revolutionary War. He is buried in the Winona Cemetery in Scott County, Tn.
Sgt. William Chambers, 4th Virginia Regiment
In his early twenties he volunteered for service in the Revolutionary Army in April 1777. He was in Captain John Morton’s company of the 4th Virginia Regiment, and was wounded in action in October 1777. He was discharged February 6, 1778 with the rank o/ Sargeant. He had enlisted for two years. His commanding officer was Thomas Elliot. William Chambers’ name is in the Scott County Courthouse yard along with other names of Revolutionary War soldiers.
