State Commerce and Insurance visit County

The Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance spent much of Friday touring emergency services throughout Scott County.
The visit, which included Deputy Commissioner Chip Kain highlighted Tennessee’s ongoing investment in rural public safety. Kain, who oversees Tennessee’s public safety portfolio, works with several key divisions, including the Fire Protection Division, the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy, the Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission, and the Tennessee Emergency Communications Board. Together, these entities establish training standards, support first responders, and help fund critical infrastructure like 911 systems and fire services.
During the visit, Kain met with Scott County Sheriff Brian Keeton, visited each volunteer fire department and rescue squad, and toured the county’s new ambulance station. He also joined local responders for a meet-and-greet lunch with the Scott County Firefighters Association and spent time with emergency communications personnel.
For communities, especially rural communities like Scott County, state-level coordination can be essential. Limited resources can often make training, funding, and statewide standards even more critical to ensuring timely, professional emergency response. By strengthening these systems, Kain’s department helps bridge the gap, ensuring residents receive reliable protection despite geographic and financial challenges.
“I appreciate Commissioner Kain and the work he and his staff does to make Tennessee safer, and I look forward to his next visit to Scott County,” said Mayor Jerried Jeffers.
