A Season of Giving in Scott County

Last week, the holiday season jumped off to an earnest start in Scott County, when an anonymous donor generously provided over 200 Thanksgiving meals to underprivileged families in Scott and McCreary Counties through the help of select schools in both counties. Though the contribution was not directly from Cumberland Clear – a point the organization would like to emphasize – it was made in the organization’s name, with the donor hoping to both serve local families this Thanksgiving and raise awareness of the Roberta II landfill proposal and Cumberland Clear’s fight against it.
The anonymous donor – whose generosity has been extended in various ways over the years, including paying late utility bills – did not seek, nor want, personal recognition, a powerful reminder across Scott County that true giving – which should be a staple this time of year – is done not for recognition but from the gratitude of personal blessings.
The same spirit of compassion, a growing virtue in the community, continued seamlessly when SCN was notified last week that the 2025 Scott County Fairest of the Fair winners were also donating Thanksgiving meals. The pageant winners, hoping to demonstrate their “Crowns of Compassion” platform, are providing one full Thanksgiving meal to all county elementary, middle, and high schools, with 10 complete meals, according to pageant organizers, going to each school to support families in need this holiday season.
“If you would like to help with continued efforts to feed local families, please contact Miss Scott County, Brylee Rector, through her social media pages for more information on how you can help,” Kendra Phillips told SCN.
