“Faith In Action”
Part II
By: Pastor David Grove
Concerning the subject of faith it’s hard to know how many times the Bible speaks of “Faith in Action,” but we do see it in the lives of people in the Old and New Testament. What type of faith and level of faith is a subject that can be debated until Christ returns, but as Paul states in Colossians 3:17 , “whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” This isn’t a suggestion by Paul, it is a command by God. The Word of God has been given to us by the heart of God, through the Holy Spirit to men so that we can know who He is and how we can have a personal relationship with Him through the Lord Jesus Christ.
Paul is stating that no matter what we are doing, we are to be doing it for the Lord. Whether it be raising a family, working at our jobs, serving the Lord in ministry; simply, just living life in general. We are living by faith and trusting in God with everything in life and as Christians we are to be above reproach and do our best to serve the Lord and to Glorify Him.
The Bible is clear that faith is not something that is in the mind, it is in our spirit and our actions. James 2:14, (NIV) says, “What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them?” Faith and works are one, they go together like peanut butter and chocolate in a Resee Cup. If you have one, it is good and tasty but when put together, they are fantastic! We are not saved by our works, how much money you have in the bank or what church committee your own or how much time you serve at your church, we are saved by grace because of the sacrifice that Jesus made upon the cross. But our faith in Christ brings forth works. I’m persuaded that because we are saved, we are to work for the Lord and not whine about the work.
As Christians, when we say we have faith are we truly having real biblical faith? Having true Christ centered biblical faith is shown when challenges come about, like the old saying says, “when the rubber hits the road.” This is when you find out if you have faith in God’s promises for you. The writer of Hebrews 11:1 states, “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see”. Take notice, our hope and faith are not in this world or ourselves. Our hope and faith are only found in Jesus Christ and in the assurance that He “will never leave us nor forsake us” (Deut. 31:6,8, Heb. 13:5). Friends, we can have faith in knowing that God keeps all His promises. We see this with the Disciples who lived this out and had faith in these promises until the end of their lives.
Keep the Faith and make JESUS FIRST In All things…
