Local youths qualify to compete in state cross country championship race

By Lesish Martin
Three local athletes competed in the Knoxville Youth Athletics regional race on Sat 10/4/25, representing Scott Co. Qualifying enables them to compete in the state championship race later in the month. A total of 301 young men vying for the chance to run in the championship race. The majority of the runners were teams from local schools. Our boys ran unaffiliated due to the requirement of 7 runners for a team. Qualifying for the championship race are, from Fairview, Drew Walker placing 17th with a time of 12.44.99 and Korbin Litton placing 49th with a time of 13.37.48. The race leader from the Knox Ambassadors team had a time of 11.46.22. Less than a minute between leader and 17th place. Representing Huntsville is Mason Ellis with a 99th place finish, faster than two thirds of the group. It was a tough competition, a 2 mile race up hills and down, on trails, and through wooded areas and fields. These young men did an awesome job in representing our county. They stepped out of their comfort zone and ran against teams who run together and compete all year long, and on trails unfamiliar to them. So on to the state championship run. How long has it been since we have had youth in the state championship cross country event? Let’s all cheer them on! Let them know we are proud of their accomplishments. We wish you the best of luck in the upcoming race!
