UT Medical Center Expands to Scott County

Scott County residents will soon benefit from expanded healthcare access as the University of Tennessee Medical Center (UTMC) announces plans to open a new specialist facility in Scott County. The move represents a significant investment in rural healthcare, bringing advanced medical services closer to home for hundreds of families who previously traveled to Knoxville and beyond for specialized care.
The new facility – located in the abandoned medical office between Plateau Electric Cooperative and the Scott County Food Court on Alberta Street in Oneida – has been a dream for Scott County Mayor Jerried Jeffers, telling SCN that he had spoken with organizers and hopes to see Scott County receive appropriate care at home without long term travel, benefiting his constituents and boosting overall heath across the area.
The project, which has seen crews working to renovate the building to meet UT specifications, will be the newest advancement in medicine in Scott County. New signage indicates that the office will house University Midwives and UT Rheumatology Associates.
Local leaders, like Jeffers, have hailed recent developments as a milestone for Scott County. For years, the area has faced challenges offering consistent access to specialty medicine. With UTMC’s presence, as well as announced advancements at Mountain People’s and a new dialysis center in Huntsville, residents can expect shorter travel and wait times, modern medical technology, and direct access to one of the state’s leading healthcare networks.
The project underscores both local leaderships’ desire and UTMC’s commitment to improving health outcomes and supporting underserved regions of Tennessee.
