Children’s Center Recognized

By Shane Gilreath
On Thursday, State Representative Kelly Keisling presented the Children’s Center of the Cumberlands with a House of Representatives resolution recognizing the organization’s 25 years of service. The Children’s Center, founded in 1999 and widely recognized for its leadership across Scott County, celebrated that milestone with a gala in May.
During their quarter century, the Children’s Center has successfully conducted a mission of advocacy, having served nearly 8,000 children and provided 84,000 services ranging from therapy to educational programs and preventative training. Of those thousands of children served, the center said, each life was touched and forever changed because of a caring community of advocates and protectors who have chosen to stand up, speak out, and be a voice. Those lives – served and saved – are the true celebration, each a story, said the organization’s Executive Director Angel Sexton.
“We are deeply honored by this recognition and grateful for the continued support of our leaders, partners, and community,” the Center said in a statement. “For 25 years, the Children’s Center of the Cumberlands has stood as a place of hope, healing, and justice—and this resolution is a beautiful reminder of the lives touched through this mission.”
Keisling, according to the organization, has served as a champion for child advocacy throughout Tennessee, putting legislation before the state legislature that strengthens protections and support for victims. Most recently, Keisling supported the passage of the Savannah Grace Copeland Act, a law that ensures victims of childhood abuse have timely access to a Child Advocacy Center for services, support, and protection.
