August 27, 1937 ~ July 12, 2025

Violetta June Lawson, age 87 of the Norma community passed away peacefully on Saturday evening July 12, 2025, at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge, TN. June was born on August 27, 1937, in Low Gap, TN to the late Alonzo and Elizabeth Chitwood. She was a member of Low Gap Baptist Church.
June met and married the love of her life, Howard Lawson, on June 7, 1957. They lived briefly in the Norma community and in Knoxville, TN before moving to Dayton, OH where they made a life and raised two precious children.
June was predeceased by her parents, Alonzo and Elizabeth Chitwood; two brothers, Charles and Marshall Chitwood; brother-in-law, Billy Silcox; sister-in-law, Bernadene Lawson.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Howard Lawson; daughter, Deborah June Marshall and husband Jim of Cynthiana, KY; son, Howard Lance Lawson and Donna of Dayton, OH; two brothers, Tommy Chitwood of Cookeville, TN and Ross Chitwood and wife Shirley of Helenwood, TN; grandchildren, Misty and husband Kenny Jarrell of Lexington, KY, Mandy Bras’ of Jeffersonville, IN, Macy Marshall and Rebecca of Cynthiana, KY, Madeline Fletcher and husband Ryan of Cicero, IN; great-grandchildren, Brayden, Bryce, Jacob, Evelyn, Rylee, Zoe; brothers-in-law, Jimmy Lawson and wife Tammy, Benton Lawson; sisters-in-law, Wilma Jeffers and husband Claud, Thelma Silcox all of the Norma community, and Barbara Jackson and husband Tim of Farmersville, OH; special friends, Annette Lawson and Eva Pennington; many other relatives and friends.
Friends may visit with the Lawson family on Thursday, July 17, 2025 from 12 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. in the chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with Bro. James Pennington and Bro. Larry Sexton officiating. Special poem “The Dash” read by Michelle Massengale, niece of Howard and June. Special music will be provided by Daniel Murley.
Committal service will follow in the Carson Memorial Park in Oneida. Pallbearers will be: Macy Marshall, Mitchell Lawson, Tyler Lawson, Jimmy Lawson, Nash Strunk, Aaron Lawson and Rick Schilke
West-Murley Funeral Home is serving the family of Violetta June Lawson.
