Construction Well Under Way at New Diagnostic Imaging Center

By Katie Phillips
Exciting progress is being made as construction continues at the Mountain People’s Health Councils (MPHC) central location in Oneida. Those passing by 462 Industrial Drive have had a front row seat to the action as the new Diagnostic Imaging Center is being built adjacent to the MPHC Oneida Clinic. With seven other locations in Scott County, this newest addition to the list of MPHC facilities is set to open in late summer or early fall of this year.
Perhaps the most promising aspect of the Diagnostic Imaging Center’s construction is the fact that it will provide services which are currently unavailable in Scott County.
“The new Mountain People’s imaging center will bring much needed diagnostic services to our community through the use of the most advanced diagnostic equipment available today,” said Mountain People’s James Lovett. “MRI, mammography, bone density scans, ultrasound, as well as routine X-rays will all be available in our newest facility and all these services will be available to everyone, not just Mountain People’s patients.”
Because of these additions to Scott County’s medical industry, locals will now have access to high-quality, affordable healthcare right here in Oneida. This is especially important for people who may not have the financial means or access to transportation to larger cities where they would otherwise undergo such testing. Since many of the diagnostic imaging services are used in preventative medicine, the improved access to care at this new facility could have a major impact on the health and lives of the local residents.
Project Manager Shirley Torwirt, MHS described some of the equipment as “state-of-the-art” – on the cutting edge of diagnostic tools available at this time. Torwirt also stated that MPHC is looking forward to working with Big South Fork Medical Center, as well as any local or out-of-town providers who plan to use the testing available at the Diagnostic Imaging Center. She emphasized that individuals do not have to be current patients of MPHC in order to utilize the services at the new facility.
The Diagnostic Imaging Center is being constructed by contractors Evans-Ailey and architect Upland Design. This new building is shaping up to be not only a beautiful addition to the MPHC campus, but a state-of-the-art facility which will provide much-needed health care services to the local community.
