Bill Boyatt, Vietnam wounded
Bill Boyatt served as a combat medic in the 196th Light Infantry from July 1967 until wounded on January 8, 1968. Bill Boyatt currently lives in the Scott County area and is active in the VFW and the American Legion.

LE. Caney Stanley (Pharmacist’s Mate First Class, US Navy) entered service June 13, 1942 after the attack by the Japanese on Pearl Harbor. He received training in the following places Great Lakes, Illinois; Little Creek, Virginia; Ocean View, Virginia; Coco Solo, Panama; American Samoa and New York, New York. He saw engagements in the Pacific Theatre notedly, Bouganville and Guadalcanal. He was discharged in Memphis, Tennessee on November 29, 1945 after 42 months of service.
Adger P. Jeffers the father of Liew Stanley’s wife Sharon was stationed at Pearl Harbor and lived through the attack of the Japanese on Pearl Harbor. Adger was in the US Navy.
LCPL-Llew Stanley, was born August 4, 1949. He had five siblings; three sisters and two brothers and graduated from Oneida High School. He worked at Scott Foods before joining the Marines. Liew was medivacked twice, once was after being shot in the ankle. Liew lost several friends in Vietnam but saved one from drowning while in Vietnam.
Liew came back to Scott County in 1969 and married Sharon Jeffers and they have one son, Travis. After College Liew became a teacher and a football coach at Capitol Hill, Scott High, Burchfield and Winfield. He retired from teaching in 2003 and is currently 68 years old and lives in Scott County with Sharon (Jeffers) Stanley

Ernest L. Gibson, KIA Vietnam
Ernest Gibson was born, March 22, 1943 in Scott County, Tennessee and was the son of Ambers and Hattie (Harness) Gibson. Ernest had six siblings; Evelyn, James (J.T.), Shelby, Paul D., Alma and Lodena. Ernest enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1962 and got married to Etta (Day) Gibson, just before his deployment to Vietnam. Specialist, Gibson arrived in Vietnam at Cu Chi on April 16, 1966 and was assigned to Company C. 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry, 25th Infantry Division and was engaged in action with the North Vietnamese and the Viet Cong, North and West of Siagon in the Tay Ninh Province, South Vietnam. He was killed in action by hostile gun fire on August 8, 1966 at the age of 23. Specialist-4, Ernest L. Gibson was brought back to the United States and buried in the Fairview Memorial Gardens. He is memorialized on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall on Panel 09E, Line 112 .

Sgt. Jerry B. Lay
Was born January 21, 1947 in Huntsville, Tennessee the son of WWII Veteran, Rev. Odus P. and Mildred (Foust) Lay. Jerry Lay enlisted in Knoxville, Tennessee on July 28, 1965 he was sent to Vietnam on February 1966 and was assigr:,ed to Company A. 1st Battalion, 2nd Infantry. On January 13, 1967 Sgt. Lay was wounded and was awarded a Purple Heart. He served two years 11 months and 29 days in the Army of which 11 months and 14 days were in Vietnam. Sgt. Lay was honorably discharged July 26, 1968. His decorations are as follows; Sharpshooter; Vietnam Service Medal; Vietnam Campaign Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Combat lnfantrymans Badge; Purple Heart; and the Army Commendation Medal.
Sgt. Jerry Lay, retired after 30 years from I.B.E.W. 760 in Knoxville, Tennessee. He currently lives in the Capital Hill area of Scott County with his wife Darlene they have two children a son Jason and a daughter Mary Alice.
