Sgt. Jerry B. Lay
Was born January 21, 1947 in Huntsville, Tennessee the son of WWII Veteran, Rev. Odus P. and Mildred (Foust) Lay. Jerry Lay enlisted in Knoxville, Tennessee on July 28, 1965 he was sent to Vietnam on February 1966 and was assigned to Company A. 1st Battalion, 2nd Infantry. On January 13, 1967 Sgt. Lay was wounded and was awarded a Purple Heart. He served two years 11 months and 29 days in in the Army of which 11 months and 14 days were in Vietnam. Sgt. Lay was honorably discharged July 26, 1968. His decorations are as follows; Sharpshooter; Vietnam Service Medal; Vietnam Campaign Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Combat Infantrymans Badge; Purple Heart; and the Army Commendation Medal. Sgt. Jerry Lay, retired after 30 years from I.B.E.W. 760 in Knoxville, Tennessee. He currently lives in the Capital Hill area of Scott County with his wife Darlene they have two children a son Jason and a daughter Mary Alice.
