James Whitney Watson
April 8, 1942 – January 15, 2025

James Whitney Watson, age 82, departed this life peacefully at his home on Wednesday, January 15, 2025. James was born in Scott County on April 8, 1942, to the late William Sherman and Lottie Marcum Watson. James was a faithful servant of the Lord and attended Mill Branch Baptist Church. He was a deacon and active member most of his life. He enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, hunting, fishing, swimming, and being around all of his family. James was a loving husband, father, papaw, brother, and friend to everyone he met. James received the experience of grandpa, but also received the recognition of being a great-great grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years: Nadine Vann Watson; Brothers: Johnny Watson and wife Mary Helen, Junior Watson and wife Bertha, and Glen Watson; Sisters: Hattie Hatfield and husband Finn, Elsie Jeffers and husband Virgil, Alene Hutson and husband Joe, Phyllis Lowe and husband Hank; Brothers-in-laws: Leonard Kirby and Paul Vann; Sister-in-law: Juanita Ausmus; Father and Mother-in-law: Alvis and Ruth Lawson Vann.
James is survived by his four children: Jeff Watson and wife Denise, Lana Selvidge and husband Benny, Jenny Seiber, Carla Miller and husband Mark; Grandchildren: Byron Byrd and wife Shea, Danielle Carson and husband Justin, Matthew Watson and wife Savannah, Kayla Flowers and husband Steven, Logan Douglas, Whitney Sieber, Shanee Dawson and husband Alex, Marcus Miller and wife Charley, and Kristin Long and husband Jake; Great grandchildren: Evan Byrd and fiancée Kym, Cadence Byrd, Lindsie and Millie Carson, Cooper and Grady Watson, Leiton, Byntlee, Lane, and Tate Flowers, Emilee, Mason, and Ella Douglas, Greyson Seiber, Kailan, Dexter, Jackson, and Alyvia Dawson; great-great daughter: Penelope Nadine Byrd; Sister: Bessie Kirby; Sister-in-law: Bernadine Johnson and husband Jim; Special thanks to caregivers Linda Terry and Sheila Byrd, Grace Primary Care and Covenant Hospice.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, January 17, 2025, from 11:00 A.M. until time of Funeral Service to begin at 1:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Four Oaks Funeral Home in Huntsville with Bro. Jeff Watson and Rev. Larry Sexton officiating. Music will be provided by The Mill Branch Church Choir. Burial will follow in the Norma Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Byron Byrd, Matthew Watson, Logan Douglas, Evan Byrd, Justin Carson and Marcus Miller.
