Highlander Wrestling Finishes 3rd in District
By Caleb Jeffers

The Scott High School wrestling team recently competed in the District tournament, where they secured a 3rd-place finish after making it to the semifinals. In spite of the loss in the semis to Anderson County High School, the season has shown improvement all across the board for the Highlanders, which coach Jason Jeffers was quick to point out.
“There’s no shame in losing to the district champions,” Jeffers said. “We were able to pick up quality wins on our way to 3rd, especially as a 2nd year program. We’re 40 individual wins ahead of where we were this time last year, and we’ve also already exceeded last year’s amount of team wins.”
As Coach Jeffers said, Scott High’s improvement has been extremely noticeable this season. Both team and individual numbers have risen substantially in almost every category. Of particular note on the individual side are wrestlers such as Lucas Boles, who sports a 17-4 record, winning nine of his last ten matches. Cayden Moffette, meanwhile, boasts the highest winning percentage on the team, standing at an impressive 83%.
Though Scott High’s hopes to move towards the Regional Tournament are over, there is still more wrestling to come. The Highlanders will continue to wrestle as they approach the Individual Regional Tournament on February 8th. There, Scott High’s best in each weight class will compete as individuals, and the top four in each class will advance to the Sub-State Tournament. Scott High had two wrestlers reach Sub-State last season (an impressive feat from a first year program), and hopes to see even more advance this year.
Scott High expects to wrestle at least four more times before the tournament, including a home match on January 28th.
