There is so much more!

By Braxton King
I was talking to my grandson, Maverick, about learning how to play baseball better. He looked at me and said, “G-Pa, they have given me a trophy.”
I began to chuckle when I realized he was saying that he already knew it all!
I know, in life, Maverick will better learn how to play baseball or any other things that he does. But as I pondered the statement, “They’ve given me a trophy,” it made me think about the way we treat personal salvation. Many times we treat salvation as a destination that we’ve arrived at, instead of the starting point of a greater life.
If we’re not careful, we will view salvation simply as a means to go to Heaven. Don’t get me wrong. It’s a great benefit that we get to go to Heaven someday as born-again believers. However, the reality is, there is so much more.
David said, “As the deer pants for the water brooks, so my soul is longing after You.”
Moses, after seeing all the glory that God had revealed to him in the deliverance of the nation of Israel, cried out, “Show me Your glory.”
Paul said, “That I may know Him.”
All of these men showed a great desire, not to be stuck and complacent, but to move forward, in a passionate love for the Lord.
Jesus told us that He is the door. The door of salvation takes us into a new life in Christ. We go out of bondage into freedom, out of sin into righteousness, which frees us to move in the will of God.
John Wooden said, “It’s what you learn after you know it all that counts.” The Bible tells us to study to show ourselves approved. We are to forsake not the assembling of ourselves together.
The apostle Paul said, “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” Notice that Paul was not complacent, but that he was passionately pursuing the will of God for his life.
Do we often have the attitude, ‘They’ve already given me a trophy?’ Do we see salvation as a destination arrived at instead of the beginning of a great adventure of faith in Christ?
The Bible instructs us to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Heaven is not just a destination that we go to when we die, but it is a kingdom that can be released into the earth now.
