PINE KNOT, KY: On Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at approximately 6:50 p.m., employees responded to two incarcerated individuals fighting at the United States Penitentiary (USP) McCreary in Pine Knot, Kentucky.
Responding employees isolated and contained the incident and initiated life-saving measures. Emergency medical services (EMS) were requested while life-saving efforts continued.
Mr. Roy Arredondo Jr. was transported by EMS to a local hospital and was subsequently pronounced deceased by hospital personnel.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation was notified.
No employees or other incarcerated individuals were injured and at no time was the public in danger.
Mr. Arrendondo Jr. was a 50-year-old male who was sentenced in the Northern District of Texas to an aggregate Life sentence for Conspiracy to Distribute Cocaine, Marijuana, Methamphetamine, and Conspiracy to Conduct the Affairs of a Racketeering Enterprise. He had been in custody at USP McCreary since December 5, 2022.
USP McCreary is a high level security facility.
