Boy Scout Troop 333, Crew 333 and Pack 136 rode the Big South Fork Scenic Railway line from the Stearns train depot. Riding on a route that was previously used for coal trains to haul. With gagged walls, tunnels, and near cliffs watching the Roaring Paunch Creek. Driving through Barthell. The next stop is Mine 18, Blue Heron. Blue Heron was one of many coal camps owned by the Stearns Coal and Lumber company. Blue Heron is within the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area, so hiking is a must do while they are here. Once the scouts arrived at the Blue Heron Train Depot, they headed straight to “Crack-in-the-Rock.” Following the a Park Ranger through the winding and up the unforgiving stairs the group arrived. Exploring the cavern to their heart’s content.
