Wilma Joyce (Sexton) Chitwood April 14, 1937 -November 8, 2023
Wilma Joyce Sexton Chitwood, age 86, of Powell, TN, passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at Fort Sanders Regional Hospital in Knoxville, TN. Born April 14, 1937, in Scott County, TN, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Zettie Yancey Sexton. Joyce was a member of Temple Baptist Church for 38 years and Solway Bap-tist Church for 20 years. Joyce served as a Sunday School teacher with her husband, Eugene, as well as in the bus ministry. She was active in church visita-tions and was a long-stand-ing member of the choir. She married the love of her life, Eugene, on July 3, 1953. They enjoyed 59 wonderful years together. Joyce was a homemaker her whole life and devoted her time to her children and grandchildren. She was a loving and support-ive mother, and she will be missed by all of her chil-dren, especially her only daughter, Melissa. In addi-tion to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her beloved husband: Eugene Chitwood; parents: Frank and Zettie Sexton; grandson: James Ste-phen Chitwood; in-laws: Reuben and Elsie Thomp-son Chitwood; siblings: Rema Sexton Watters, Reba Sexton Thompson, Gurnell Sexton, and James Franklin Sexton Jr.; daugh-ter-in-law, Robin Chit-wood. Joyce is survived by her children: Gregory Eugene Chitwood, James Steven Chitwood and wife Debbie; Melissa Joyce Chitwood Young and husband, Patrick,; grand-children: Matthew Eugene Chitwood and wife Crys-tal, Amanda Renee Smith and husband Roy, Andrew Benjamin Chitwood and wife Dominique, Candice Marie Chitwood, Willow Noel Young, Piper Arielle Young, and very special granddaughter: Chloe Alexa Young; several great grandchildren; and many other family members and friends. The family would like to thank the staff of Fort Sanders Hospital for taking wonderful care of our mother. Martha Carson April 26, 1936 -November 11, 2023
Martha Carson, age 87 of Pine Knot, KY passed away on Saturday, Novem-ber 11, 2023, at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, KY. Born in Scott County, TN on April 26, 1936, she was the daughter of the late John Riley and Cora Lee Sexton Byrd. Martha loved her family more than anything. She loved to color on her tablet and read her Bible. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenard Carson; son, Howard Kenny Car-son; mother and father-in-law, Leon and Laura Cecil Carson; grandson, Derrick Coffey; son-in-law, Terry Upchurch; daughter-in-law, Kathy Tucker Carson; sisters, Magdalene Hill, Vanie Newport, Nova Jean Owens, and Mazena Edmons; and brother, Obra Byrd. She is survived by her sister, Sara Knedler; brother, David (Mary Lou) Byrd; daughters, Pam Upchurch of Somerset, KY and Sherry (Randy) New of Whitley City, KY; sons, Johnny Carson of Pine Knot, KY and Ricky (Dawn) Carson of Somer-set, KY; grandkids, Kendra Coffey, Shawn New, Teri Lynn Upchurch, Amanda (Randy) Dugger, Brandon (Tiffany) New, Kenny Nathaniel (Whitney) Car-son, Ricky Douglas Car-son, Kiersten (Jason) Wil-son, and Jordan (Dillan) Staley; 3 special nieces, Cora Lou Queener, Dor-othy (Jenny) Watson, and Brenda Witham; 1 special nephew, Butch Owens; 17 great grandkids; 2 great-great grandkids; and many other relatives and friends. James Lowell Day, age 67 of Huntsville, TN passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knox-ville, TN. Born in Scott County, TN on March 22, 1956, he was the son of the late Harrison and Rosie (Harness) Day. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Randy Day; father and mother-in-law, Pete and Charlene Crowley; brothers, Harley Dean, Darrell, Glen, and Carl Lee Day; sisters, Patricia Anderson and Jannie Fay Chambers; and nephews, McKinley and Harvey Day. James is survived by his wife, Kathy (Crowley) Day; children, Jonathan Day and fi ancée April Pike of Huntsville and Joanie Terry of Oneida; grand-children, Lance and Colby Terry, Jesse and John Day; sisters, Florena Day and husband Jackie, Lodena Lowe and husband Lonas; special friends, Ronnie and Jessica Lloyd; and many other relatives and friends.Friends may visit with the Day family on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 from 5 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 7 p.m. in the chapel of West-Mur-ley Funeral Home with Bro. James Earl Bridges, age 76 of Oneida, TN passed away on Sunday, No-vember 12, 2023. Born in Oneida, TN on September 17, 1947, he was the son of the late Rev. Earl and Elsie Marcum Bridges. James was a long-time member of the Pine Creek United Baptist Church. He was also a devout University of TN fan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Carl and Ethel Laxton Bridges and Fred E. and Rosa King Marcum; his sister, Debra Ann Bridges Honeycutt; brothers-in-law, Charles B. Beets and Onvie and Ernest Honeycutt. James is survived by his sister, Brenda Bridges Beets; three nephews, Charles Kenyon, Matthew James, and Jonathan Delmas Beets; one aunt, Jean Mar-cum; several cousins; and many other relatives and friends. A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 17, 2023 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with Bro. Keith Marcum offi ciating. Music will be provided by the Pine Creek United Baptist Church choir.

Steven D. (Koty) Duncan, age 32 of Helenwood, Tennessee passed away on Friday, November 10, 2023, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. He was preceded in death by his brother, Tayce Smith; uncle, Tony Monday; aunt, Wanda Fetterman; paternal grandmother, Nez Duncan; paternal grandfather, Ronnie Duncan; maternal grandmother, Jonnie Corder; maternal grandfather, Gary Monday. Koty is survived by the love of his life, Madisen Duncan; three greatest joys, his children, Kota, Karter, and Kane; father, Steve Duncan; mother, Tabi Smith; sister, Tyi Smith; brothers, Dalton Duncan and wife Heather Duncan and Rory Smith; mother-in-law, Denice Buckner; father-in-law, Ray Buckner; sisters-in-law, Rheagan Vance and Robin Buckner; brother-in-law Caiden Buckner; uncles Thad Chambers and Zach Monday and wife Brenda Monday; aunt, Linda and Uncle Allen Goad; aunt Betty and uncle Chuck McCleary; aunt Violet and Uncle Jerry Burchfi eld; Lifelong friends: Caleb Laxton, Cole Lowe, Kelsey; Slaven, Jordan Chitwood, Torrey Slaven, and Fuzz Carson. He also leaves many other relatives and friends. Naomi Ellis May 12, 1939 -November 13, 2023
Naomi Smithers Ellis of West Robbins, TN went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Monday, November 13, 2023, at her home. She was 84 years old. Born in Scott County, TN on May 12, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Virgil and Arlene Smithers. She was a member of West Robbins Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Ellis; sister, Evelyn Perry; brother, Sonny Smithers; and brother-in-law, Charles “Troy” Perry. Naomi is sur-vived by her sons, Sonnie “Ray” (Angie) Ellis of the West Robbins Community and Reese (Joyce) Ellis of Grimsley, TN; daughter, Teresa (Randy) Poe of Jamestown, TN; sisters, Kathy Romans of the West Robbins Community and Katie (Steve) King of the West Robbins Communi-ty; grandchildren, Justin Brawner, Christopher Houser, Jeremy Houser, Joshua Allen Ellis, Joshua Curtis Daniels, Jacob Ellis, and Christina Taylor and husband Zachery; 11 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, other family members and friends. At Naomi’s request, there will be a graveside service which will be on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at 11 a.m. in the Kilbeck Cemetery with Bro. Brian Strunk and Bro. Robert Freels offi ciating.
