Zora Jean Cross Burress
April 20, 1937 – June 25, 2026
Zora Jean Cross Burress, age 89, departed this life on June 25, 2026, in Montgomery County. She was born in Smokey Junction, TN, and relocated to Miamisburg, Ohio, in 1958. Ms. Zora loved bluegrass music, the Monroe Brothers, George Jones, and she frequently sang in church with her siblings, Arnold, Nora, and Evelyn, when she was a young girl. In her later years, Ms. Zora would sing at her church, Victory Hill Baptist Church, in Miamisburg, Ohio. Ms. Zora was best known for her quilting and crocheting afghans for family members and beloved friends.
Ms. Zora was preceded in death by her parents, William Frank Cross and Mary Elizabeth Massengale Cross; her husband, Theodore Norman Burress, Sr. (Ted); her son, Theodore Norman Burress, Jr. (Teddy); and her daughter, Beverly Jean Holleran ; brothers, Ova Cross, Arnold Cross, and Bratcher Cross; and sisters, Pearl Owens, Nevada Lowe, Canzada Owens, and Nora Ward.
Ms. Zora is survived by her remaining daughters, Dr. Teresa Clark and Mrs. Mary Michelle Walker (Jimmy Walker); her sister, Evelyn Lowe; and brother, Odel Cross, and seven grandchildren, and a plethora of great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends for visitation at 11:00 AM, Thursday, July 2, 2026, until time of funeral service to begin at 12:00 PM in the Chapel of the Four Oaks Funeral Home of Huntsville with Pastor Keith Massengale officiating. Burial to follow at Nicks Creek Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in the Smokey Junction Community.
Pallbearers will be Kyle, Bobby, Tyler, Colin, Danny, and Dan.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Wendell, and Kayden.
In lieu of flowers, a love token may be placed in Ms. Zora’s memory with the Colon Cancer Foundation.
