County Budget Passes

The Scott County Commission unanimously approved the county’s fiscal year 2026-27 budget during a special called meeting last week.
The budget passed on a motion by Commissioner Robyn McBroom and a second by Commissioner David Jeffers after commissioners considered several planned amendments, including at least one intended to clarify wording and prevent a write-up from the state. The measure ultimately received unanimous approval.
Before the vote, Commissioner David Jeffers commended the commission for its continued efforts to reduce Scott County’s debt, praising the body’s long-term fiscal management.
With the passage of the budget, the property tax rate will remain unchanged at $1.6009. The budget also includes a 6.5% raise for county employees.
“With this raise, we have been able to secure a 23% raise for county employees over the past 4 years and 23%+ for 10+ year employees,” County Mayor Jerried Jeffers said in a social media statement.
Jeffers also thanked commissioners during the meeting for their work throughout the budget process.
“I appreciate the work the County Commission has done and it’s been something special to be a part of the things this body has done,” Jeffers told commissioners. “I appreciate the efforts on the budget and I appreciate every one of you for the work you have done.”
The approved spending plan will guide county operations throughout the 2026-27 fiscal year.
