National Crime Victims’ Rights week was April 19-25 this year. To promote awareness, the Eight Judicial District Attorney General
Jared Effler and staff completed their 6th Annual Walk for Victims this week with events in Claiborne, Union, Campbell, Fentress and Scott Counties.
“Throughout the week, we saw communities come together—law enforcement, elected officials, advocates, and citizens—standing side by side in support of victims and survivors of crime,” Effler said.
The Scott County event took place on Friday, April 24th at Huntsville City Park. The event included several community leaders speaking about the importance of victims’ rights and bringing awareness to this issue. One woman shared her emotional story of how she was personally affected by a violent act.
“We recognize every victim and family member who joined us, as well as those who could not be present,” Effler said in a statement. “You are not forgotten. National Crime Victims’ Rights Week serves as a reminder that our work does not end with this week—we must continue to listen to victims, act in their support, and advocate for their rights every day.
The event saw participants walk a lap to honor and remember the victims. After the walk, lunch was provided by Plateau Electric.
