Missing Person Reporting – What You Need to Know
By Sheriff Keeton and Staff
One of the biggest myths we hear is that you have to wait 24 to 48 hours before reporting a loved one missing.
That is NOT true.
If someone you care about is missing and you believe they could be in danger, you should call law enforcement immediately. Every minute matters—early reporting helps us act faster, share information, and begin searching without delay.
There is no waiting period to file a missing person report.
This includes children, teens, and adults.
The sooner we have the information, the better chance we have of locating your loved one safely.
Please help us spread the word. Sharing accurate information can save lives.
If you ever need to report a missing person in Scott County, call the Sheriff’s Office at 423-663-2245 or dial 911 in an emergency.
Together, we can make a difference
