What a Friend We have in Jesus

By Braxton King
In the beautiful hymn, ‘What a Friend We Have in Jesus’, we have this wonderful line, “What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!” If we are not careful, we will begin to look at prayer as a duty and not as a privilege.
The truth is that prayer is an amazing privilege. Imagine if you will, the engine of your car is broken and you have no ability to fix it. Imagine that you have been given access by a friend to the very person who designed the car and engine. Imagine that he is willing to give you the wisdom needed to repair it. You would see this access and this knowledge as great privileges. I’m sure that you would tell your friends and family about the great honor that was bestowed upon you by the inventor of that engine.
Jesus Christ came to this Earth to give us access to our heavenly Father.
Did He not tell us, “If any man lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who will give it to him freely.”? No wonder the song writer said, “What a privilege!”
Jesus, through His shed blood, has made it possible for every born-again believer to have access to the endless storehouse of God’s knowledge.
The Bible says of our God, “He is an ever present help in time of need.”
We read in the book of Ephesians, “In whom we have boldness and access with confidence through our faith in Him.”
So not only do we have access to the Father, but we have boldness and confidence. What a privilege to carry our burdens to the Lord. We are now invited to enter into God’s own Throne room.
Hebrews says, “Let us, then, with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
What a privilege, through the blood of Christ, that we can come boldly to God’s throne. The purpose of going there is to receive mercy and find grace to help us with our needs. What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer.
Today, rejoice that God has made it possible for us to enter into His presence and receive from His mighty grace. Remember, we must believe He rewards those who diligently seek Him.
