Joeldean Piercy Taubert, age 81 of Robbins, TN went home to the Lord peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, March 17, 2024. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and spent her life as a loving stay-at-home wife and mother.
This verse was specifically marked by Joeldean, and I believe it sums up Joeldean’s journey home beautifully, Job 23:10-12 (KJV): 10But He knoweth the way that I take: when He hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold. 11My foot hath held his steps, His way have I kept, and not declined. 12Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.
Mrs. Taubert was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur O. Taubert, Jr. and her parents, Joel Piercy and Helen Toomey Piercy.
She is survived by her son, Aaron Taubert of Robbins, TN; 3 grandsons, Derek (Heather) Taubert of Robbins, TN, Scott (Jordan) Taubert of Clinton, TN, and Marcus Taubert of Joplin, MO; her sister, Judy (Paul) Sexton; brother-in-law, Doyle Taubert; sisters-in-law, Ernestine Sharp and Pam Taubert; 8 great-grandchildren, Troy Dean, Ally, Zoey, Tinlee, Jade, Maddox, Briggs, and Penelope; lots of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, friends, and neighbors.

John T. Botts
March 4, 1938 ~ March 17, 2024 (age 86)

On Sunday, March 17, 2024, John T. Botts, loving husband and father of two children, passed away at age 86. He was born on March 4, 1938, in Clinchmore, TN to John W. and Viola Duncan Botts.
On March 4, 1961, he married his sweetheart Frankie Kaye Owens Botts. They raised two kids, Tracy and John. John attended New Salem United Baptist Church and was employed at Ford Motor Company for 30 years. John was drafted and served in The United States Army from 1961-1967 in the 160th Ordinance Company Fort Bragg N.C. Brother John Botts was also an active member of Masonic Lodge #678 in Mason Ohio for 41 years. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit.
John was preceded in death by his father, John, and his mother, Viola; daughter: Kimberly Botts; sister: Leah Allen and husband Charlie Allen; brothers: Bernard Botts and wife Ruth, Thurman Botts; brothers-in-law: Dave Moore, Jackie, Gatchel, Paul and David Owens; and sister-in-law: Jodean Strunk.
John is survived by his wife Kaye of 63 years; two children: Tracy, and John and wife Tracey; granddaughters: Kayleigh Gibson and husband Andy, and Hannah Jewett and husband Josh; great granddaughter: Aubrey Gibson; and great grandson: Oliver Jewett; sister: Jo Moore; brother: Larry Botts and wife Valerie; sisters-in-law: Theresa Duncan and husband Duanne, Katherine (Rickie) Owens; brother-in-law: Bobby Owens; niece: Patty McGowan; and Stuart Owens along with several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A special thank you to Brenda Smith, hospice nurse, and all that cared for John during his final days.

Patricia (Patty) Johnson
March 2, 1941 ~ March 18, 2024 (age 83)

Patricia (Patty) Sue Smith Johnson, age 83 of Oneida, TN passed away on Monday, March 18, 2024, at the Big South Fork Medical Center in Oneida TN. She was born in Oneida, TN on March 02, 1941, to the late Henry Clay Smith and Eulis Williams Smith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband Robert Owen (Bob) Johnson, her grandparents Henry Clay Smith Sr. and Lucinda Terry Smith, Gertie Ipock Williams and G.B. Williams.
Patty was a graduate of the 1959 Class of Oneida High School. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Oneida where she served as the organist and pianist, she would also sing in the choir.
Patty lived a very fulfilling and diverse life in many aspects.
She began a career in law enforcement with the Metro Police Department of Nashville Tennessee working her way through the ranks, ultimately becoming a detective.
Upon retiring and relocating back to her hometown Patty enjoyed manicuring and maintaining her landscaping as she was always going above and beyond while entertaining Family and Friends with her contagious Smile and Laughter.
She is survived by her loving first cousins John Roy Thompson of Oneida TN, Sharon Smith Hodges of Knoxville, TN, Debra Jane Smith Webb of Memphis, TN, Jane Goldman of Tampa, FL, Joe Alan Cecil of Knoxville, TN, Francis Galbraith of Westchester, Ohio and Linda Taylor of Lakeland, FL.
Also survived by: Her loving cousin Gregory Brett Chambers, whom she thought of as her own son, her dog and companion, Mandy, three special cousins Becky West of Huntsville TN, Sylvia Billingsley of Oneida TN, Michael Brown of Litchfield Beach South Carolina, sister-in-law Cyntha Atkinson of Hermitage, TN, her dear friend of many years, Susan Hatcher of Clinton, Utah.

Gary Dean Botts, age 66, of Helenwood, TN, departed this life suddenly on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at The Waters of Clinton Rehab Center in Clinton, TN. Born June 15, 1957, in Scott County, TN, he was the son of the late Bernard and Ruth (Presley) Botts.
Gary was a proud United States Army Veteran who served his country with pride. He was also a wonderful musician, singer, and writer of Gospel music. He loved God, his country, and his family immensely.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son: Carrie Lee Botts; brothers: Steve, Jerry, and Bernard Michael Botts; sister: Bernadene Lawson; and niece: Misty Strunk.

Loyd Cecil Strunk
December 27, 1942 ~ March 22, 2024 (age 81)

Having fought the good fight and finished his race, Loyd Cecil Strunk, 81, went to be with his Lord, Jesus Christ, on March 22, 2024. Everyone who knew Cecil knew how much he cared about others and worked to provide for their wellbeing. He gave decades of his life in service to our community, committed to helping those most in need. This was demonstrated through a variety of careers, but his work as a paramedic was closest to his heart. In this, we saw him fulfill God’s two greatest commandments (Matthew 22: 37-40).
Left to remember his life is his son and daughter-in-law Gregory and Cheryl Strunk of Winfield, TN; his son and daughter-in-law Douglas and Sheri Strunk of Weatherford, TX; his grandchildren Megan Strunk, Leland Strunk, Brianna Strunk, Catherine Strunk, Amanda Hancock, Krystal Brown; his brother-in-law Michael Burchfield of Lakeland, FL and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Steve and Tammie Burchfield of Huntsville, TN; aunts Edna Sexton, Joice Chitwood, and Rosey Strunk, many cousins, including Jim and Faye Strunk, Lee and Michelle Strunk, Donald and Almeda Peavyhouse, Bill Strunk, Bob and Kim Strunk, Troy and Michelle Strunk, Don and Eileen Strunk, and many other loving family members including Paul David and Shawn Burchfield, Troy and Vanessa Burchfield, Melissa and Melvin Jeffers, Emily Burchfield, Kevin and Sandy Byrd, Richard and Crystal Byrd, Marlon and Caren Byrd, Konrad and Corrine Birchfield, Bridget and Mark Hodges, Margaret and Thomas Larsen, Stasha and John Strunk, Courtney and Casey Adkins, Katelyn Burchfield and Adam Boone Baldwin, great-grandchildren Madysen Brown, Savannah Brown, John Foulks, Victoria Foulks, Alex Foulks, and his “third son” and fishin’ buddy Daniel Terry.
He was preceded in death by his wonderful wife of 58 years, Judith Strunk, his parents Gilbert and Pearl Strunk, uncles Raymond Strunk, Goldman Strunk, Hobert Strunk, Hurstle Strunk, Caleb Sexton, aunt Estelle King, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sue and DL Byrd, sister-in-law Maleia Reed, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Virgil and Phoebe Birchfield, brother-in-law John Burchfield, and sister-in-law, Mary Burchfield.
The family will receive guests at the New Haven Baptist Church on Thursday, March 28, 2024, from 10 am to 12 pm. Memorial service will be held at 12 pm with gravesite services to follow at the Walnut Grove Memorial Cemetery in Winfield, TN.
Family and friends are invited to a meal at Winfield City Hall following his burial.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his sister: Jennifer Lee Ellis.

Patsy “Pat” J. (Laxton) Beets age 86 of Oneida, TN passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at the Big South Fork Medical Center in Oneida, TN. She was born in Duff, TN on May 4, 1937. She was the daughter of the late Delmas and Estelle Floyd Laxton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Sherry Ann; sons, Micheal Beets and Charles Beets; and her sister, Phyllis Ann Flatt.
She is survived by her daughter, Darlene (Charles) King; her daughter-in-law, Brenda Beets; and her son, David Beets both of Oneida; seven grandchildren, Stephanie (Roy) Overton, Kristy (Perry) Terry, Charles (Khia) King, Kenny, Matthew and Jothan Beets and David (Chelsey) Beets Jr., all of Oneida; nine great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren; long-time friend, Joan Hatfield; and several other relatives and friends. She loved her family with her whole heart and will be greatly missed.

Richard Dennis Ellis, age 80 of Huntsville, Alabama, formerly of Scott County, TN, passed away on March 1, 2024, at his residence. Born on June 17, 1943, in Scott County, TN, he was the son of the late Richard and Amner Lawhorn Ellis. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and retired in 2005 after many years of service with the U.S. Government. Richard was an avid hunter and loved NASCAR and exploring the great outdoors while camping across North America with his wife.
Richard is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Gayle Hinshaw Ellis; sister-in-law and caregiver, Janice (Glenn) Grant of Winchester; sister-in-law, Carol (Chris) Carr of Tullahoma; brothers-in-law, Rick (Barbara) Hinshaw of Franklin, and Don Hinshaw of Laguana Hills, California; special niece, Ivy (Joe) Bailey of Fayetteville; nephew, Ben (Teresa) Greene of Athens, Alabama; and several other nieces and nephews.

Ricky Trammell
Ricky Trammell, age 60 of Winfield, TN passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at the Big South Fork Medical Center in Oneida, TN. Born in Revelo, KY on March 9, 1963, he was the son of the late Marshall and Nola Trammell.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Josephine Chambers; brothers-in-law, James Stephens, Glen Stephens, and Shane Stephens.
Ricky is survived by his wife, Shonda Stephens Trammell; two daughters, Nola Raines (Austin) and Latasha Chitwood; one son, Ricky Chitwood; special grandson, Justin Trammell; several other grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Phronsie Wilson, Charlene Martin, and Arlene Smith; brothers-in-law, Morris Stephens (Robin), Greg Stephens, Stacy Stephens, and Maynard Stephens, Jr.; one special friend, Mark Kehn; many other relatives and friends.
Ricky’s request was cremation. A memorial service at the Cozy Inn will be announced at a later date.

Zelma (Garrett) Phillips
Zelma Garrett Phillips was born November 6, 1937, in the Honey Creek Community of Fentress County, TN. She and her husband Russell, working together, outfitted many homes in the area with their expert sewing skills. Zelma will be remembered by many for the delicious food (especially chicken and dumplings) provided for various occasions as well as to minister to the sick. Her last act of love was to sew and distribute (always free) face masks for anyone needing them. Several hundred masks were picked up from her carport throughout the pandemic.
In 2021, her cancer journey began. She faced it bravely and praised her Lord to the end.
Zelma was a member of the Helenwood Baptist Church and greatly enjoyed many years of fellowship and worshipping with her Church family.
Zelma was preceded in death by her husband: Charles Russell Phillips; parents: Rev. Omar and Effie (Collins) Garrett; two infant siblings; sisters and brothers-in-law: Bertie (Ralph) Chambers and Beatrice (Junior) Lewallen; one brother: Roy Garrett; brother-in-law and wife Mendle (Elsie) Phillips, and sister-in-law: Bonnie Foster.
Zelma is survived by her children: Allen (Kathy) Phillips of Helenwood; Terri (Dwight) Murphy of Winfield; six grandchildren: Ashlee (Chris) Tabor of Kettering, OH; Jordan (Matthew) Sims and Blake (Gracie) Murphy, both of Winfield; Erika (Brian) Bradley and Melanie (Cody) Laverdiere, all of Knoxville, and Cole Murphy of Brooklyn, NY; fourteen great-grandchildren; special nieces: Connie (Gilbert) Phillips, Leslie Phillips, Linda Barton, and Cricket Boyles; nephews: Jerry Foster and Charles (Bud) Garrett; as well as many other family members and friends.
The family would like to recognize some very special people in her life: Brenda Smith, who has been a wonderful friend to our mother throughout her illness. We cannot thank her properly. Wilma Jean Newport
Wilma Jean Newport, age 80 of Helenwood, TN passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at the Big South Fork Medical Center in Oneida, TN. Born in Scott County, TN on October 9, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Edna (Neely) Griffith. Jean was loved by so many. She was a hard-working woman and loved her family more than anything. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Anderson Odell Newport; brothers, Vaughn, Floyd, Robert, Clayton, and Willard Griffith; sisters, Hazel Brewster, Mary Estes, Helen McGill, Ruth Talley, Shirley and Juanita Griffith; special niece, Karen Newport; and best friend, Alice Griffith.

Shirley Draughn Reed
Monroe, NC where she resided in recent years near family. The majority of her life was spent in Scott County, TN. Born and raised in the Honey Creek
Community in Fentress County, TN, to Alvin Draughn Sr. and Ollie Draughn. She then began working in her teen years in Scott County, married Marvin C. Reed and they raised their family there. Shirley was a member of the Pentecost Baptist Church in Oneida, TN. She was a hard worker in her life with some of her jobs being a waitress at several Oneida restaurants, working in a bakery, and delivering Meals on Wheels. She was always excited to see and talk with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid collector of Coke-a-Cola memorabilia.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Marvin Calvin Reed, her infant daughter, Marlene Kay Reed, her brothers, Lee, Junior, Lawrence and Donald Draughn and sisters Ella Whittenburg, Lucille Garrett, Reba Beckham, Helen Hull {and 5 brothers-in law and 2 sisters-in law}.
She is survived by her children, Garry Allen (Paula) Reed of Waxhaw, NC; Senior Chief Petty Officer (RET USN) Jeffrey (Christy) Reed of Suffolk, VA; Marvin Scott (Renee) Reed of Knoxville, TN. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Garrett (Haylee) Reed, Allie (Michael) Stephenson, Jennifer (Trey) Prosser, Andrew (Angel) Reed, Charity (C.J.) Lonnie Lloyd Slaven, age 75 of Oneida, TN went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 9, 2024. Born in Oneida, TN on November 27, 1948, he was the son of the late Andrew Slaven and Lola Boyatt Slaven.

Bobby Delmar (B.D.) Boyatt, age 91, departed this life on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at Huntsville Manor in Huntsville, Tennessee surrounded by his family. Born July 4, 1932, he was the son of the late Willie and Lucy Marcum Boyatt. He was a faithful member and deacon of Foster Crossroads Baptist Church and owner of B & B Logging Company until his retirement.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Foster Boyatt; brothers, baby Willie, Carl and wife Virginia, James and wife Osa, Clay and wife Lois, Everett and Archie; brother-in-law, Joe Lee Stephens; sisters, Maggie Kidd and husband Herbert, Kathleen Collins and husband Jim, Faye Hicks and husband George; father and mother-in-law, Howard and Minnie Simpson Foster; brothers-in-law, Harold Foster and Bill Claiborne; sisters-in-law, Dean Barger and husband Cliff, Mary Jane Foster and Lena Ryan.

Bill Wayne Reynolds, age 68 of Oneida, TN, passed away on March 11, 2024, at the Oneida Nursing and Rehab Center in Oneida. Born September 29, 1955, in Oneida, he was the son of the late Rev. J. C. and Velma Clark Reynolds. Bill was the founder and operator of BKR Service Company, INC, and Rey Oil & Gas, INC; and was of the Baptist Faith. Bill was an amazing husband, father and grandfather.

Cora spent her life as a nurse and loved the Lord. She loved spending quality time with her family & friends. Her heart was full and overflowed onto those who knew her. She was a wonderful and loving daughter, sister, mother, granny, & friend to everyone. She will be missed by all.

Deanna Russell Foster, age 71, departed her life on Friday, March 15, 2024, at her home. She was born on September 10, 1952, in Scott County, TN, to the late Everett and Tina Davis Russell.
We won’t say goodbye to you because none of us would like to. Although we cannot see you anymore, you’ll always still be at our side. You left us memories that will last through eternity. Your character and loving heart will forever be unmatched. Your given nature was a gift from God that we were all blessed to witness. You were steadfast in your faith and never wavered. Your loyalty to your family could never be challenged. Saying goodbye to you is something we won’t do. We love you, our Mother, our blood.
In addition to her parents, Deanna was preceded in death by her husband: Charles C. Foster; son: Stacy Phillips; brothers: Carter, Burley, and Steven Russell; sisters Joyce Salts and Zona Long; and mother-in-law: Celia Foster.

Joeldean Taubert
Joeldean Piercy Taubert, age 81 of Robbins, TN went home to the Lord peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, March 17, 2024. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and spent her life as a loving stay-at-home wife and mother.
This verse was specifically marked by Joeldean, and I believe it sums up Joeldean’s journey home beautifully, Job 23:10-12 (KJV): 10But He knoweth the way that I take: when He hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold. 11My foot hath held his steps, His way have I kept, and not declined. 12Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.
Mrs. Taubert was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur O. Taubert, Jr. and her parents, Joel Piercy and Helen Toomey Piercy.

John T. Botts
On Sunday, March 17, 2024, John T. Botts, loving husband and father of two children, passed away at age 86. He was born on March 4, 1938, in Clinchmore, TN to John W. and Viola Duncan Botts.
On March 4, 1961, he married his sweetheart Frankie Kaye Owens Botts. They raised two kids, Tracy and John. John attended New Salem United Baptist Church and was employed at Ford Motor Company for 30 years. John was drafted and served in The United States Army from 1961-1967 in the 160th Ordinance Company Fort Bragg N.C. Brother John Botts was also an active member of Masonic Lodge #678 in Mason Ohio for 41 years. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit.
John was preceded in death by his father, John, and his mother, Viola; daughter: Kimberly Botts; sister: Leah Allen and husband Charlie Allen; brothers: Bernard Botts and wife Ruth, Thurman Botts; brothers-in-law: Dave Moore, Jackie, Gatchel, Paul and David Owens; and sister-in-law: Jodean Strunk.
John is survived by his wife Kaye of 63 years; two children: Tracy, and John and wife Tracey; granddaughters: Kayleigh Gibson and husband Andy, and Hannah Jewett and husband Josh; great granddaughter: Aubrey Gibson; and great grandson: Oliver Jewett; sister: Jo Moore; brother: Larry Botts and wife Valerie; sisters-in-law: Theresa Duncan and husband Duanne, Katherine (Rickie) Owens; brother-in-law: Bobby Owens; niece: Patty McGowan; and Stuart Owens along with several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Patricia (Patty) Johnson
Patricia (Patty) Sue Smith Johnson, age 83 of Oneida, TN passed away on Monday, March 18, 2024, at the Big South Fork Medical Center in Oneida TN. She was born in Oneida, TN on March 02, 1941, to the late Henry Clay Smith and Eulis Williams Smith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband Robert Owen (Bob) Johnson, her grandparents Henry Clay Smith Sr. and Lucinda Terry Smith, Gertie Ipock Williams and G.B. Williams.
Patty was a graduate of the 1959 Class of Oneida High School. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Oneida where she served as the organist and pianist, she would also sing in the choir.
Patty lived a very fulfilling and diverse life in many aspects.
She began a career in law enforcement with the Metro Police Department of Nashville Tennessee working her way through the ranks, ultimately becoming a detective.
Upon retiring and relocating back to her hometown Patty enjoyed manicuring and maintaining her landscaping as she was always going above and beyond while entertaining Family and Friends with her contagious Smile and Laughter.
She is survived by her loving first cousins John Roy Thompson of Oneida TN, Sharon Smith Hodges of Knoxville, TN, Debra Jane Smith Webb of Memphis, TN, Jane Goldman of Tampa, FL, Joe Alan Cecil of Knoxville, TN, Francis Galbraith of Westchester, Ohio and Linda Taylor of Lakeland, FL.
Also survived by: Her loving cousin Gregory Brett Chambers, whom she thought of as her own son, her dog and companion, Mandy, three special cousins Becky West of Huntsville TN, Sylvia Billingsley of Oneida TN, Michael Brown of Litchfield Beach South Carolina, sister-in-law Cyntha Atkinson of Hermitage, TN, her dear friend of many years, Susan Hatcher of Clinton, Utah.

Gary Dean Botts, age 66, of Helenwood, TN, departed this life suddenly on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at The Waters of Clinton Rehab Center in Clinton, TN. Born June 15, 1957, in Scott County, TN, he was the son of the late Bernard and Ruth (Presley) Botts.
Gary was a proud United States Army Veteran who served his country with pride. He was also a wonderful musician, singer, and writer of Gospel music. He loved God, his country, and his family immensely.

Loyd Cecil Strunk
Having fought the good fight and finished his race, Loyd Cecil Strunk, 81, went to be with his Lord, Jesus Christ, on March 22, 2024. Everyone who knew Cecil knew how much he cared about others and worked to provide for their wellbeing. He gave decades of his life in service to our community, committed to helping those most in need. This was demonstrated through a variety of careers, but his work as a paramedic was closest to his heart. In this, we saw him fulfill God’s two greatest commandments (Matthew 22: 37-40).

The family will receive guests at the New Haven Baptist Church on Thursday, March 28, 2024, from 10 am to 12 pm. Memorial service will be held at 12 pm with gravesite services to follow at the Walnut Grove Memorial Cemetery in Winfield, TN.

Samuel Martin ‘Marty’ Ellis, age 49, of Robbins, TN, passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at the Big South Fork Medical Center in Oneida, TN. Born February 18, 1975, in Oneida, TN, he was the son of Samuel Huling Ellis and the late Karen Sue Ellis.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his sister: Jennifer Lee Ellis.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his sisters: Peggy Lynn Washam, and Jacqueline Hope Ellis; nephews: Tyler Terry, and Zachary Bohl; nieces: Bethany Epperson and boyfriend Colby Epperson, and Haley Terry and boyfriend Dorian Smallwood; great nieces: Macie Danielle, Catelyn LeeAnn, and Clara Rose; as well as many other family members and friends.

Patsy “Pat” J. (Laxton) Beets age 86 of Oneida, TN passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at the Big South Fork Medical Center in Oneida, TN. She was born in Duff, TN on May 4, 1937. She was the daughter of the late Delmas and Estelle Floyd Laxton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Sherry Ann; sons, Micheal Beets and Charles Beets; and her sister, Phyllis Ann Flatt.
She is survived by her daughter, Darlene (Charles) King; her daughter-in-law, Brenda Beets; and her son, David Beets both of Oneida; seven grandchildren, Stephanie (Roy) Overton, Kristy (Perry) Terry, Charles (Khia) King, Kenny, Matthew and Jothan Beets and David (Chelsey) Beets Jr., all of Oneida; nine great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren; long-time friend, Joan Hatfield; and several other relatives and friends. She loved her family with her whole heart and will be greatly missed.
