Two teams from TCAT O/H bring home the gold at SkillsUSA state competition

CHATTANOOGA — Students from Tennessee College of Applied Technology Oneida/Huntsville won gold in two

separate categories at the annual SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference that concluded here Wednesday.
TCAT Oneida/Huntsville students won state championships in the Promotional Bulletin Board and CIT Cybersecurity categories.
“Our students represent the best of what our campuses have to offer. They’re skilled, driven, and ready to succeed,” said TCAT Oneida/Huntsville SkillsUSA coordinator Janet Watson. “SkillsUSA gives them a powerful platform to showcase those talents on a competitive stage, and seeing two of our teams bring home gold is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and the quality of training they’re receiving.”
The bulletin board team is made up of cosmetology student Shaya Smith and computer information technology students Ryan Householder and Dakota McBride.
All three team members hold student leadership positions at TCAT. Smith is a state officer for SkillsUSA and is a member of the student government, while McBride is also a member of the student government. Householder is currently a finalist being considered by Gov. Bill Lee to represent students across the state on the Tennessee Board of Regents.
The 2026 state SkillsUSA conference marks the second consecutive year that a TCAT Oneida/Huntsville team has won gold in the Promotional Bulletin Board category. Last year’s team that brought home the top prize was made up of cosmetology students Haize Mayse and Megan Keller, and automotive student Cameron Parker. All three have since graduated.
The CIT Cybersecurity team is made up of computer information technology students Seth Posey and Byron Sexton.

Posey is a former president of the student government.
Both teams have earned a trip to Atlanta, where they will compete in the SkillsUSA national competition in early June.
Other students from TCAT Oneida/Huntsville who made the trip to Chattanooga this week for the SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference included Dylan Cadle, Joshua Hicks (Machine Tool Technology), Brody Russelburg (CIT), Morgan Seabolt (Diesel-Powered Equipment Technology), Shannon Silcox (Automotive Technology), Ethan Smith (Diesel-Powered Equipment Technology), Rylin Smith (CIT), Erian Washam (Building Construction Technology), and Paden Watson (Building Construction Technology).
Joining students at the SkillsUSA competition this week were admissions lead Janet Watson, cosmetology instructor Jayne Roysden, automotive instructor Tim Gibson, CIT instructor Jake Kimbrell, diesel instructor Gabe Kennedy, and machine tool instructor Steven Crabtree.
