The annual Clays 4 Children Sporting Tournament, spearheaded by 8th Judicial District Attorney General Jared Effler, proved once again to be a smashing success in 2025. The two-day event took place between October 2nd and October 3rd at Iron Mountain Sporting Clays in Kodak, Tennessee, bringing together law enforcement, community leaders, and shooting enthusiasts to support various charities, including the Children’s Center of the Cumberlands and other agencies across Effler’s District.
Now in its eleventh year, the tournament continues to grow in both community involvement and overall impact.
“The Clays 4 Children Sporting Clays Tournament is immensely helpful for child victims within the 8th Judicial District,” said Michelle Halstead, Prevention Education and Community Development Manager for the Children’s Center. Participants compete as part of four-person units with awards going to top shooters and teams. Beyond the competition, attendees can take part in both silent and live auctions, featuring a wide variety of donated items from local businesses and supporters. All efforts support children. Proceeds from Clays 4 Children provide crucial services to victims of child abuse and neglect.
“The proceeds from the tournament directly benefit the Children’s Center of the Cumberlands and Campbell County Children’s Center, allowing us to go above and beyond for our clients in a way that would be impossible otherwise,” Halstead told SCN. Among the services the Children’s Center provide include forensic interviews, trauma-informed counseling, medical evaluations, and coordinated assistance with law enforcement and court proceedings.
District Attorney General Effler has long emphasized that the event is about more than mere sport. For Effler, it’s about community compassion. “Every dollar raised helps a child find safety, healing, and hope,” Effler has said. “The success of this tournament shows what can happen when people come together for our most vulnerable.”
The local Children’s Center was quick to point out the event’s impact on their service. “We are so thankful for the tireless efforts of General Effler and his staff,” the organization said. “They host this event each year in support of the mission to protect and help the children in the community. We are also grateful for all the community members and friends who show up to this event each year and make it such a success.”
