Shop with a Cop

Alex Geisler presents check to Oneida Chief Daryl Laxton for Shop with a Cop.
By Chris Maney
The Badge and Beauty Pageant, put together by Alex Geisler, owner of Med Piercing Center in Oneida TN, raised $2,740 in funding, which was donated directly to Shop with a Cop. This total remains after pageant expenses were deducted. She told Scott County News that donations to Shop with a Cop are still ongoing and can be given my depositing directly into the Shop with a Cop fund at United Cumberland Bank. She was grateful to sponsors of the event which allowed the most money to be funded directly to the Shop with a Cop program. The next shop with a Cop will be hosted December 19th 2024, starting at 5:00 pm.
Shop with a Cop is an annual event in which low-income students are paired with officers and given an allotment of funds to shop at the local Oneida Walmart for Christmas. It’s estimated that each child will be given $150 this year. The effort, hosted by the Oneida Police Department, is a multi-department event in which agencies such as TBI, KY State Police, TN State Police, Scott County SD, Morgan County SD, McCreary County SD, plus other agencies are expected to be in attendance. Annually, the event services around 200 youth.
Shop With a Cop services the most in need youth in the county, which according to a 2023 report by the Tennessee Commission of Children and Youth’s is among the poorest performing counties in child poverty, ranking 88th out of 95 Tennessee counties.
