Health Fair Demonstrates Number of Resources for Locals
By Chris Maney
On November 16th, the Scott County Senior Citizen’s Center was host to a local health fair, which served the purpose of demonstrating the number of local resources available to the local Scott County community. Rebecca Pipkins, community outreach coordinator of St Mary’s Legacy Clinic, informed Scott County news that the event served more than 100 locals. 12 received their annual flu-shot from the Scott County Health Department, and many individuals received blood pressure and glucose screenings at the event – two significant silent causes of later complications from disease. Rebecca stated that they were absolutely thrilled with the turnout and opportunity to show the community what they have at their fingertips. Catholic Charities of East TN contributed to the many boxes of food that was distributed to guests. A significant number of vendors and/or resources were present at the event – of which will be listed below. Organizers are considering but have not confirmed annualizing the event to continue demonstrating community health and social service resources.
