Carline “Carla” Smith

April 21, 1960 ~ June 1, 2024

Carline “Carla” (Byrd) Smith passed away on June 1, 2024, in Lafollette, Tennessee, at the age of 64. She was born on April 21, 1960, in Oneida, TN.

Carline was a loving Wife, Mother, and Grandmother. She cherished spending time with her family and friends, especially during major holidays where she could be found preparing delicious meals. Carline also enjoyed playing cards, solving puzzle books, and engaging in embroidery and quilting. She had a special fondness for watching cartoons while babysitting her beloved grandchildren. In her final months, Carline dedicated her time to creating beautiful baby blankets, quilts, and pillows for her family, fellow patients, and staff members at Cumberland Village Nursing Home. Her generous and caring nature touched the lives of all those around her, and she will be dearly missed.

She was preceded in death by her father, Esau Byrd, her mother, Willie Wanda Day, her husband, Dillard Smith, and her son, Orville Steven Byrd.

Carline is survived by her sisters, Louise Giles and Mary Predmore, her daughters, Tammie L. Rowe and Daisy H. Waters, and her son, Michael L. Smith, and many other relatives and friends.

In accordance with Carline’s wishes, there will be no Memorial Services to honor her life.

Rita Fay (Lawson) Jones

August 31, 1948 ~ June 3, 2024

Rita Fay Lawson Jones, age 75, departed this life on Monday, June 3, 2024, at her home in Robbins, TN.  She was born to the late Johnnie and Mae Lawson in Oneida, TN, on August 31, 1948.  She was a beloved wife of Elbert Dennis Jones, Sr., cherished mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend; and was a member of the Black Creek United Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband:  Elbert Dennis Jones, Sr.; daughter:  Donna Fay Jones; father and mother-in-law:  Ernest and Pauline Jones; brothers:  Frances Lawson, Clifton Lawson, Curtis (Bud) Lawson, and infant brother; sisters:  Shirley Walker, Fannie Hargis, Clara McClain, and infant sister.

She is survived by her sons:  Dennis Jones and wife Pauletta, Vince Jones and Donna; daughter:  Debbie Free and husband Paul Blake; brothers:  Cliff Lawson and wife Martha of OH, Carl Lawson of OH, Jimmy Lawson and wife Bonnie of Robbins; and sister:  Flonnie Jones of Robbins; grandchildren:  Shawna Alexander and husband Brian, D.J. Jones and wife Mercy, Kayla Wilson and husband Justin, Christyn Allen, Candance Jones, Donald Perry Maribeth Drinkard and husband David, Renee Brown and husband Brian; great-grandchildren:  Bray, Grayson, Layah, Teagan, Aria, Colton, Asher, Jaxtyn, Emberly, Kaylee, Aria, Willow, Jill, Taylor, Ryder, Easton, Denver, Trigger, Chase, Chrisleigh, Rustyn, and Fenleigh; several nieces, nephews and many other family members and friends.

Timothy Duncan

April 20, 1978 ~ June 4, 2024

Timothy Jonah Duncan, born April 20, 1978, passed suddenly at his home in Strunk, KY on Tuesday, June 4, 2024. Timothy graduated from McCreary Central High School in 1997 with his best friends, Richard, David, and Thomas Trammell of Strunk, KY. He will be greatly missed by his trucking family at Cordell Trucking in Winfield, TN. He was a member of Roundtop United Baptist Church in Strunk, KY.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lloyd and Nola Trammell formerly of Strunk, Ky and Clyde “Pat” and Othela Duncan formerly of Oneida, TN.

He is survived by his children, Madison and Justin Duncan of Oneida, TN; his parents, Tim and Joyce Duncan; sister, Stacy Duncan Lowe of Strunk, KY; aunts, Shirley (William) Cox of Williamsburg, KY, Betty Hicks of Strunk, KY, Anita Muse of Pioneer, TN, Linda (Ronnie) York of Robbins, TN, Tina (Bill) Lloyd of Mt. View, TN; cousins, Samantha, Katie, and Will Cox of Williamsburg, KY, Toby Jeffers of Pioneer, TN, Stefanie Warren of Somerset, KY, Matthew Hicks of Strunk, KY, Ron and Brandon York of Robbins, TN, Bradley Lloyd of Nashville, TN, Brent Lloyd of Knoxville, TN, Blake Lloyd of Mt. Mitchell Marlow

December 13, 1950 ~ June 5, 2024 

Mitchell Lynn Marlow, age 73, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, June 5, 2024. He had several businesses in Oneida over the years, Mitchell’s Trading Post, M&M Machine Shop, and M&M Leather Shop. He also taught machine shop at Oneida/Huntsville Area Vocational School for 32 years. He was a member of Pine Hill Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Maxwell Marlow; grandparents, Maney and Alva Marlow, R.L. and Cassel Stanley and Melbert Ellis; and sister-in-law, Donna Marlow.

Mitchell is survived by his wife of almost 48 years, Neva Sue Marlow; son, Mitchell Clint Marlow; mother of his three grandchildren, Amanda Hammock; grandsons, David and Maxton; granddaughter, Shelby, whom he loved very much; mother, Zora Marlow; brother, Keith Marlow; nieces, Andrea Marlow and Rachel Litton and husband Jeremy; cousin, Carrie Ellis; and many other family members and friends. He will be missed by all.

Donald “Donnie” Silcox

April 11, 1960 ~ June 6, 2024

To all that have known Donald “Donnie” Ray Silcox, born April 11, 1960, left on his way home on Thursday, June 6, 2024, surrounded by family, wife and nurses who cared for and cherished him.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Smiley Silcox; mother, Thelma Ruth Newport-Silcox; brothers, Homer Paul Silcox and Dewayne Russell Silcox; sister, Christine Shoemaker; brothers-in-law, Hoyal Hutson, Therman Johnson, and Buster Shoemaker, whom he loved very much.

Donnie is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann Silcox; two sons, Donald Derrick Silcox and Daniel Ray Silcox and life partner Damara Parton; three granddaughters, Journee, Kamara, and Kyree; two sisters, Trula Johnson and Phyllis Hutson, whom he loved and always tried to help along the way as well as nieces and nephews whom he loved very much also; great nieces and nephews whom he cherished; special friends, Wayne Lowe, the late John Stephens and wife Jan whom he called sister and Ted Schrock and wife Marcella Schrock whom he thought of as a sister; many other relatives and friends.

Rhoda Jean (Welsh) Daniel

September 30, 1926 ~ June 8, 2024

Rhoda Jean Welsh Daniel, age 97, of Oneida, TN, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at the Oneida Nursing and Rehab Center in Oneida.  Born September 30, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Ralph Benjamin and Edith Isabelle Simpson Welsh of Aliquippa, PA.

Rhoda was raised in western Pennsylvania until moving with her family to N. Chili, NY.  There she obtained her A.A. degree from Roberts Wesleyan College.  In 1948 she moved with her family to Central Florida and graduated from the Orange Memorial Hospital in Orlando with her R.N. degree.

After graduating, she worked at the hospital and later at the Orange County Medical Services in the county nursing home and jail.  In 1953, Rhoda had planned to join the Navy as an officer.  She stated she had her bags packed when she met her husband Forrest on a blind date.  Four days later she was engaged, and three months later they were married.  Most of her work career was spent at two nursing homes in Orlando and Winter Park, serving as the Director of Nursing.  After retiring from nursing, she worked with her husband at the family-owned business, Loch Haven Pharmacy.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Oneida where she was a member of the Crusaders Sunday School class.  While in Florida, at the First Baptist Church of Winter Park, she was a Sunday School teacher for the elementary aged children for many years.  She later served as the wedding coordinator for the church.

Rhoda was active in her community doing volunteer work with the Orange County Historical Society, Orlando Science Center, the Orange Memorial Nursing Auxiliary, and the Orange County Pharmacy Ladies’ Auxiliary.

She was a friend, mentor, teacher, and a blessing to many people throughout her lifetime.  A true Woman of God, she lived her life according to Galatians 2:20 and her Savior’s example.

Rhoda is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years:  James Forrest Daniel, Sr.; son:  David Welsh Daniel; sister:  Carole Ann and husband David Luther; brother:  Ralph Simpson ‘Bud’ and wife Norma Welsh; father-in-law and mother-in-law:  Clarence and Mollie (Forrest) Daniel; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law:  Clarence ‘Dan’ and Virginia ‘Jinx’ Daniel, Aubrey and Christine Daniel, and Ophelia ‘Jane’ and John Davies.

Rhoda is survived by her son:  James Forrest Daniel, Jr. (Alice) of Bradenton, FL; daughters:  Mary Ann Daniel Roark (Terry) of Oneida, TN, and Carol Lee Daniel Paul (Bryan) of Petaluma, CA; daughter-in-law:  Marilu Daniel of Perry GA; sister:  Mary Ellen Seabolt of Oneida; eleven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Friends may visit with the Daniel family on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. until time of the Celebration of Life service at 12:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home with Dr. Sean Lee and son, Jim Daniel officiating.  Music will be provided by Bro. Allen Martin, accompanied by pianist Jane Phillips.

Committal service will follow in the Carson Memorial Park in Oneida, TN.  Pallbearers will be her grandsons:  Trenton Forrest Cornwell, Tyler Cornwell, Kevin Currier, Jeremy Paynter, Keith Paynter, Mark Roark and Matthew Roark.

Edward ‘Eddie’ Honeycutt, Jr.

July 29, 1964 ~ June 11, 2024

Edward (Eddie) Honeycutt, Jr., age 59 of Crossville, TN, passed away on June 11, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loved ones.  Born July 29, 1964, he was the son of Lola Dean Davis Honeycutt and the late Edward Honeycutt, Sr.  He was of the Baptist faith and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior while growing up.

Eddie lived most of his adult life in Abingdon and Bristol, VA, after he met the love of his life, Donna, who stole him away from TN to VA where they raised their children, their pride and joy.  They also owned and ran Country Boy Produce for over 20 years until Eddie got his Real Estate License and worked at Century 21 where he found a love for computer technology and worked at Alpha Natural Resources and AGC Glass while Donna chose a career in nursing.  Eddie loved the outdoors, riding the Creeper Trail in Abingdon and bass fishing on South Holston Lake, but fishing on Lake Chickamauga in Chattanooga was his favorite.  Eddie bled orange!  He was a Vol for life.

In addition to his father, Eddie was preceded in death by his grandmothers:  Elizabeth Honeycutt and Rose Davis; his father-in-law:  Jerry Finger; grandmothers-in-law:  Zelma Finger and Evelyn Burchfield.

In addition to his mother, Eddie is survived by his loving wife:  Donna; son: Edward Honeycutt III (Trey) and daughter-in-law Leslie; daughter:  Elizabeth (Beth) Carpenter and son-in-law Nathan; the light of his life grandchildren:  Analeigh Carol, Eli Jonathan, and Andrew Wyatt Honeycutt, and his unborn grandson that he so badly wanted to meet:  Ezra James Carpenter; brother:  Edwin Honeycutt; sister:  Carol Ann Russell and husband Tim; brother-in-law:  James Rockford Lambert; mother-in-law who helped care for him during his illness:  Gail Lambert; niece:  Chloe Cross and  husband Dakota (his fishing buddy); nephew:  Caden Russell; special great niece:  Josie Cross; and several aunts, uncles, many cousins and friends.  He is also survived by his special fur babies:  Coco and Pebbles, who stayed right by his side until the end, and fur friend:  Tyanna.

Sharon (Chambers) Ellis

June 15, 1943 ~ June 18, 2024

Sharon Ellis of the Pine Hill community, passed away on June 18, 2024, from dementia related complications, she was 81 years old. She was surrounded by her loving family at the time of her passing.

Sharon was known by many in the town of Oneida as the friendly face at Doctor Bruce Coffey’s original office on main street and then for many years at various Mountain People Health Clinic offices around the county. She loved helping people and saw it as her ministry to help take care of the sick and needy.

Sharon is preceeded in death by her father and mother, Ancil and Nellie S. Chambers, of Winfield, sisters Zona Faye Byrd, Emma Swint, and Beverly Letner, and brothers Paul and Granville Chambers.

She is survived by her husband, Russell L. Ellis, sons and family, Chris and Sharon Ellis of Oneida, Eric Ellis of Nashville, TN, Rusty and Rae Ellis of Oneida, and Ashley and Toya Ellis of Huntsville, TN. Grandchildren and family include, Bayli and Logan Miller, Morgan and Chase Crabtree and daughters Kynsleigh, Khaden, and Kylee, Madison and Devin Rose and son Henlee, Malaki Ellis and fiancé Haley, Shaelee and Eli Hembree and daughter Iva, and Hannah Ellis. She is also survived by her brothers and family Donald and Diane Chambers and Junior Chambers all of Oneida; and many other family members and friends.

Larry Wayne Adkins

June 5, 1941 ~ June 25, 2024

Larry Wayne Adkins, age 83, of Winfield, TN, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, TN, with his loving family by his side.  Born June 5, 1941, he was the son of the late Zola Lee and Irene Duncan Adkins.  Larry professed a hope in Christ at age 15.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers:  Roger Zane, Paul Henry, Kelly (Ann), and Kenny Lee; mother and father-in-law:  Christine and R. D. Forbis; brothers-in-law:  Johnny and R. L. Forbis.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 64 years:  Loretta Forbis Adkins; three sons:  Greg (Ann) Adkins of IL, Tim (Rova) Adkins of Helenwood, TN, and Phillip (Peggy) Adkins of Rockwood, TN; sister:  Sandra (Bob) Stewart of Winfield, TN; sisters-in-law:  JoAnn Adkins and Hilda Forbis; grandkids:  Amber (Adam) Brown and Alyssa (Jake) Alt, both of IL, Eric (Leeann) Adkins of Knoxville, TN, Jamie (Shawn) Kitterman of Helenwood, TN, Ashley (Daniel) Adkins of Soddy Daisy, TN, Sarah (Marshal) Adkins of Lenoir City, TN; nine great grandkids; and many other relatives and friends.

Linda Lou York

May 7, 1957 ~ June 29, 2024

Linda Lou York, age 67 of Robbins, TN, passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at her home.  Born in Oneida, Scott County, TN, on May 7, 1957, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Lee and Flonnie Mae Bowling York.  Linda was a member of the West Robbins Baptist Church.  She loved going to church, reading and watching cooking shows.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by grandparents:  Sampson and Watsie Bowling and George and Ova York; uncles and aunts:  Lloyd, Ralph and Ross, Bowling, J.C. York and wife Betty, Delis York and wife Betty; Marion (Tim) Hamby, Wilma Bee and husband Russell, Elizabeth Lloyd and husband Eddie, and Pauline and Wanda Bowling.

Linda is survived by her brothers:  Roy York and wife Terri of Helenwood, and David York and wife Cheryl of Robbins; sister:  Peggy Frogge and husband Jerry of Robbins; aunts:  Loretta Hamby who was known as Momma Ready, Lorene Bowling, Florietta Arthur, and Kathern Bowling; uncles:  Floyd Bowling and Eulis York; several nieces and nephews; and many other family members and friends.

Frances “Leonie” Phillips

August 26, 1936 ~ June 29, 2024

Frances “Leonie” Dyer Phillips, age 87 of Helenwood, TN passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at her home. Born in Huntsville, TN on August 26, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Winfield and Mary Eva Jeffers Dyer.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Segal Jeffers and Clifford Dyer, both of Huntsville, TN; two sisters, Jessie Dyer Hammons McCreary and Edna Mewanna West, both of Huntsville, TN; father and mother-in-law, Bob E. Phillips and Dorothy Crowley Phillips, three brothers-in-law, Golman Phillips, Billy J. Phillips (Gaylon), and Vaughn Phillips; one sister-in-law, Joyce Williams (Tootsie).

Leonie is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Darell Phillips; three children, Darlene, Daniel, and David Phillips, three grandchildren, Ryan, Brandon, and Britany; six great grandchildren, all of Ohio; sister-in-law, Janice Childress; several nieces and nephews, all are very special, and she really loved all; many friends in Tennessee and Ohio; many other family members and friends.

Her prayer was that all would accept Jesus before their passing. She and Darell were married New Years Eve 1954, a husband who loved God and was a really good loving husband who tried to please all. She is definitely in Heaven. Jesus was her life.

Family and friends will meet for a graveside service on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at 2 p.m. in the Carson Memorial Park in Oneida with Bro. Jim West officiating. Family will serve as pallbearers.
