Jennifer Jo Reed Sexton,
age 74, departed this life at
Oneida Nursing Home of
Oneida on June 12, 2023
following a long illness.
A native of New River,
Jennifer was the daughter
of Clyde Reed and Joyce
Voiles Reed. She was born
in New River on November
13, 1948. Her grandparents
were Reason and Frankie
Ross Voiles, and Kwood and Flora Newport Reed, all of
New River. She was a graduate of Huntsville High School
and a graduate of University of Tennessee. She was a
Christian and a member of the Helenwood Baptist Church.
Jenny spent her early adult years teaching mathematics at
Clinton Middle School and her later years as a professor
of mathematics at the University of the Cumberlands in
Williamsburg, Kentucky. She was known for her ability to
make difficult math concepts understandable. Her hobbies
included calligraphy, genealogy, and reading. She enjoyed
old-fashioned letter-writing and sending cards to family
and friends. She was an animal lover and provided a home
for many cats over the years. Her world revolved around
her best friend and husband, Burton, and his passing in
2015 was a loss from which she never recovered.
She leaves behind one brother, Craig Reed and wife, Carol
of Helenwood, and one nephew, Justin W. Reed and wife,
Jennifer and Jen’s daughter, Maddie of Knoxville and
many friends.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 14,
2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the J.W. Sexton Cemetery with
Bro. John Tate officiating. Pallbearers will be family and
friends. In lieu of flowers, donations to For the Love of
Paws of Scott County would be appreciated.

Gary Jr. Terry, age 59 of
Rugby, TN, passed away on
Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at
his home. Born December
5, 1963, in Covington, KY,
he was the son of Shirley
Sexton Terry and the late
Estel J. Terry. Gary was of
the Christian Faith, and a
Veteran of the United States
Army.
In addition to his father, he
was preceded in death by his grandparents: Lonnie Bee
and Marie Butler Terry, and Freeman and Dora Shannon
Sexton.
In addition to his mother, Shirley Sexton Terry, he was
survived by his wife: Tiffany Terry; children: Andrea
Terry, Gary Mitchell Terry (Jeanie), Kellie Lowe (Austin),
and Wesley King; grandchildren: Grace, Landon, Jacob,
Aria, Cooper, Harper, Clayton, Hadleigh, and Cohen; great
grandchild: Emerson; siblings: David Terry (Tanja), Rick
Terry (Trina), and Angel Sexton (Shane); as well as many
other family members and friends.

15, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at
12:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home
with Bro. Rick Terry officiating.
Committal service will follow in the Baptist Memorial
Cemetery in Robbins. Pallbearers will be: David Terry,
Rick Terry, Shane Sexton, Gary Mitchell Terry, Wesley
King and Austin Lowe. Honorary Pallbearers will be:
Austin Sexton, Dusty Sexton, Rob Hughett, Rick Lowe,

Jerry Carson, age 64 of
Helenwood, TN passed
away on Saturday, June 10,
2023, at his home. Born on
August 17, 1958, in Oneida,
TN, Jerry was the son of
the late Charles and Susie
Marcum Carson. He was a
member of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his father,
Jerry was preceded in death
by his twin sons: Brian Wayne and Christopher Aaron
Carson.
In addition to his mother, Jerry is survived by his wife:
Melinda “Babe” Carson; daughter: Cristy Sue “George”
Carson; stepson: Tracy and Eric Lawson; sister: Jennie
Carson Phillips; brother: “Bigfoot” Mike Carson; special
friends: Jimmy Lawhorn, Carl Massey, and Jeff Sims

Stephens, age 95, of the
Niggs Creek Community
of Oneida, TN, went to be
with the Lord on June 10,
2023. Born in Scott County,
TN, she was the daughter
of Rev. General Calvin
and Flora Thomas Phillips.
Edith was saved and joined
Hazel Valley Church in
August of 1943. She was a
member of the First Baptist Church of Oneida, TN.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by
her loving husband of over 50 years: Robert Stephens, Jr.;
sisters: Gertie (Phillips) Stephens and husband Rannie;
Lenora (Phillips) Foster and husband Glen; brothers:
Palm T. Phillips and wife Carol, and Arthur Phillips and
wife Pearl; mother and father-in-law: Elizabeth and
Robert Stephens, Sr.; sisters-in-law: Flora Stephens and
husband Jennings, Beulah Vanlandingham and husband
Art; Diane Stephens, and Judy Stephens; brothers-inlaw:
Elmon Stephens and wife Kathleen, Paul Stephens
and wife Orpha, and Paul Waldroup; special great niece:
Melanie Chitwood.
Edith is survived by one daughter: Loretta Kaye (Stephens)
Sexton and husband Brian; three grandchildren:
Brianne (Sexton) Upchurch and husband Jared; Lauren
(Sexton) Hamby and husband Jeremy; Trevor Sexton and
wife Michelle; seven great grandchildren that she cherished:
Keithan, Abram and Evalea Upchurch; Elizabeth
and Olivia Hamby; Liam Sexton and baby girl Sexton
arriving soon; sister-in-law: Myrtle (Stephens) Waldroup;
brothers-in-law: Carl Stephens and wife Imogene, Herbert
Stephens and wife Janet, Lloyd Stephens and wife Martha,
Joe Stephens and wife Jackie, Frank Stephens and wife
Betty, and Clyde Stephens. She also leaves many special
nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Burress, age 56, of Oneida,
TN, passed away Sunday,
June 11, 2023, at CHI
Memorial Hospital. Born
September 15, 1966, in Akron,
OH, he was the son of
the late William Blaine and
Ona Cross Burress. Tony
was of the Church of God
faith and loved God with all
of his heart.
In addition to his parents, Tony was preceded in death by
his brothers: J. K. Burress, and Mark Burress; sisters:
Virginia ‘Opal’ White, and Linda Carano.
He is survived by his brothers: Dewey Burress and wife
Alice of IL, William ‘Ike’ Burress and wife Sandy of TN,
Gene Burress and wife Dorothy of GA, Paul Burress and
wife Marlene of GA, and Gerald Burress of TN; sisters:

“C.J.” Posey age 95 departed
this life on Wednesday
June 14, 2023 at his
home in the Pine Hill Community.
He was a member
of the Mt. Zion Baptist
Church. He was born January
18, 1928 to the late Joe
and Flonnie Posey Laxton.
He was preceded in death
by two Brothers Leland Posey and Paul Posey and one
infant sister Reba Posey. His Father –in-Law and Mother-
in-Law Rev. Emmett Hughett and Flora Byrd Hughett
Bell. Two Brother-in-Laws Roy Hughett and wife Rema,
Autrie Hughett and wife Imogene. Two Sister-in-Laws
Littie Posey and husband Leon and Ethel Byrd and husband
Otto.
Courtland is survived by his wife of 72 years Etta Lee
Hughett Posey. Two sons Norvan Jennings Posey and wife
Theresa of Helenwood, TN, and mother of his children,
Patricia (Pat), Clark Ewell Posey and wife Leila Fay of
Oneida, Tn. Two Grandsons: Wade Posey and wife Gwendolyn
of Oklahoma, Darrin Posey and wife Allyson of
South Carolina, One-step Grandson, Timothy Richardson
of Ohio. Three Great Grandchildren: Alexander, Dylan
and Emory. Six Step-Great Grandchildren Cody, Robert,
Anthony, Mariella, Kathryn, and Adelina. Two Sisterin-
Laws Alma Posey of Dayton, Ohio and Phyllis Posey
of Cincinnati, Ohio. Four Nieces: Debbie Shade, Sheila

was a garden designer with
a certification in master
gardening. Most of all, she loved spending time with her
grandchildren whom she dearly loved.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Macarthur

R.H. Webb, age 82 of
Oneida, TN, passed away at
his home on Thursday, June
15, 2023, with his family
by his side. Born in Scott
County, TN on June 16,
1940, he was the son of the
late Crusoe and Alta Smith
Webb. He was a member
of the Pine Creek Baptist
Church.
R. H. was a very
hard-working man who
enjoyed to work. He grew up and worked on his family’s
dairy farm. R. H. wore many hats, including logger, truck
driver and owner, and diesel mechanic, but farming was
his passion.
In addition to his parents, R.H. was preceded in death by
his loving wife of 57 years: Mary Anne Southern Webb;
brother: Paul T. Webb; special cousins: Etta Jane Webb
Price and Ella Mae Webb VanFleet.
R. H. is survived by his two sons: Rocky Webb (Debbie
Jo), and Martin Webb (Vickie); one daughter: Lisa Day
(Larry); two grandsons: Coty Webb (Casey), and Ryan
Day; two great grandchildren: Allie and Noah Webb; one
brother: David Webb; special cousins: Mary Lou Clark
and Lynna Ruth Standridge; several nieces, nephews,
other family members, and friends.
