Sen. Yager Meets with Mayors on Rural Health Grant Opportunities
NASHVILLE – Sen. Yager hosted mayors from across rural Tennessee in conjunction with the Governor’s Office to discuss upcoming grant funding opportunities through Tennessee’s Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP), a statewide initiative aimed at strengthening healthcare access and outcomes in rural communities.
The meeting focused on how local communities can best position themselves for funding opportunities under the program, which will direct approximately $1 billion into rural Tennessee counties over the next five years to support long-term healthcare improvements and infrastructure investments.

In the meeting, discussions included future grant opportunities, community partnerships, and strategies to improve healthcare access in underserved areas.
“This program represents a transformational investment in the future of rural Tennessee,” said Yager. “By bringing local leaders together early in the process, we can ensure our communities are prepared to compete for these resources and identify the healthcare needs that matter most to the people we serve. Rural Tennesseans deserve access to quality healthcare close to home, and this initiative will help strengthen healthcare systems across our state for years to come.”
Earlier this month, the Tennessee Department of Health announced the first competitive funding opportunity under the Rural Health Transformation Program, which will support a perinatal and pediatric behavioral health teleconsultation and education initiative designed to improve care for women, infants, and children in rural communities. The program is part of a broader federal investment awarded to Tennessee through the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to improve rural healthcare systems statewide.
