RUGBY – Get fired up for Historic Rugby’s third annual Chili Cook Off and Silent Auction, set to take place Saturday, February 8th at 5pm Eastern in Hester Hall, located right behind the Visitor Centre on Rugby Parkway.
“Over the past two years, the chili cook off has grown into a community favorite, drawing larger crowds each time,” says event co-organizer Robb Goldwire. “It’s a can’t-miss family event to help release that winter cabin fever.”
Twenty cooks are invited to enter their best chili recipes in the competition. Those who want to participate can fill out an entry form by clicking on the Events tab on the Historic Rugby website, at www.historicrugby.com.
“Our chili cook off features a mouthwatering selection of flavors, from rich and smoky to bold and spicy. Expect varieties like chicken, vegetarian, venison, and beef, as well as a few special family heirloom and secret recipes,” says Goldwire. “It’s always fun to taste the creativity of these talented chefs.” This year’s cook-off will also include Rugby Brand Beer, specially brewed for the event in Rugby, Tennessee.
Taster tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door; kids under ten taste free. Each taster will receive 15 tickets, which they can use to vote for their favorite chilis. Extra tickets are available for purchase at the event or judges can simply add cash to the voting boxes on each table. The chili with the most tickets/dollars wins! Taster tickets can be purchased online at www.historicrugby.org under the Events tab.
Voting for the cook off and bidding on the silent auction will end at 6:30 pm Eastern. Winners will be announced at 6:45 pm.
All proceeds help non-profit Historic Rugby, Inc. continue to protect and preserve the village and share the stories of the British and American colonists who established Rugby 143 years ago.
If you have questions or would like to donate items for the silent auction, email Robb at [email protected] or Frannie Hamrick at [email protected] for more details.
Rugby, Tennessee was founded in 1880 as a British colony. It’s adjacent to the Big South Fork National Recreation Area and is a 2.5 hour drive from Nashville and a little over an hour away from Knoxville.
