If you want fun, adventure, and something new to do, check out the first annual Big South Fork Highland Fest & Renaissance Faire this Friday and Saturday (September 6/7) from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Two McCreary Countians, Benjamin Duncan and Candice Greene Slavey, teamed up to establish the event.
“I originally thought of doing this type of event back in 2016, after my wife and I visited the KY Ren Faire in Eminence,” Duncan said. “I talked with Candice about it because she has experience with festivals and those types of things. She agreed to come on board to help me establish and manage the festival. Since then, she has hit the ground running, adding great activities.”
The medieval event comes to life this Friday and Saturday at Possum Trot, 517 Adkins Trail, Winfield, TN, as it features the best in Highlands and Renaissance adventure and tradition.
“Candice and I wanted to add an event that spoke to a large variety of people, not catering to just one demographic,” Duncan continued. “This event speaks to both young and old and helps everyone experience things they’ve only dreamed about.”
Those attending the Highland Fest & Renaissance Faire should arrive at the festival in the mood to browse and shop amongst the many vendors offering such wares as food & drink, blacksmithing, leatherwork, jewelry, unique art and craft items, crochet, woodwork, and much more. Inflatables will be set up to keep the children entertained.
Want to try a new experience? Try finding your way out of the King’s Council Chamber escape room or join in a suspense-filled Quest as you try to solve the mystery of the missing princess. After watching the Lexington Lycans’ Armored Combat Group, venture over to the Knight’s Dining Experience for delicious medieval culinary delights.
Don’t forget the live music, knight fights, and adult archery/axe throwing. The festival also offers kid-friendly archery and axe throwing to keep the youngsters safe while participating.
