CITIZENS GAS UTILITY DISTRICT
Citizens Gas Utility District operates natural gas distribution pipelines in portions of Scott,
Morgan, Campbell, and Fentress Counties. These pipelines reliably distribute natural gas to
customers across our service area. While these pipelines are generally safe, they can be damaged
by things such as excavation, natural forces, and automobile accidents, potentially causing
a leak. A leak on the pipeline can cause fires, explosions, flying debris, and asphyxiation
under certain conditions. You may recognize a natural gas leak by a “rotten egg-like” smell
or hissing sound. If you know of, or suspect a natural gas leak, have everyone leave the area
and call your natural gas supplier or 911 from a safe area. DO NOT US ANY ELECTRICAL
DEVICES OR POTENTIAL IGNITION SOURCES NEAR THE AREA OF THE POTENTIAL
LEAK. We regularly patrol our system and check the pipeline for leaks to help mitigate
hazardous situations. You can help prevent pipeline damage and leaks by calling 811 before
doing any excavation or demolition and submitting a utility request. For more information,
