The world’s coral reefs are under threat due to extreme heat and warming oceans. However, scientists in Australia have found one solution that may help the hurting reefs rebound. Surprisingly, with their teeming wildlife, healthy reefs are quite noisy places. Scientists have found that playing recorded sounds of healthy reefs using underwater speakers at suffering reefs can encourage fish back to the unhealthy reef. The hope is that the fish will consume algae and deposit nutrients at the reef via their waste, and, combined with coral seeding, the effort may help dying reefs regain health. |
